Making le5 lnf

Hoping someone could help me out. I was looking around for a 2.0 block and noticed 2.4 block seemed to be easier to get and way cheaper. Does anyone know for sure if a lnf crank would fit inside a le5? I was thinking of putting everything lnf inside the le5 block. Lnf crank, rods and pistons. I would just get 88mm lnf pistons (wiseco). I assumed the blocks would be similar and you would be able to bolt this all up? Then I would put a lnf head on also.

Lnf pistons are 86mm. You would have to get custom pistons and rods

I would use both aftermarket pistons and rods. 88mm wiseco and aftermarket forged lnf lsj rods (145 or 145.5mm). I think I saw someone saying it would probably work. I think they said it would end up with a 2.1l displacement. I couldn’t find much info on the build. It was on kappa forum I found information.

This is a 2.1L conversion. I've seen a couple LSJ's do it, but never an LNF. ZZP makes the pistons for an LSJ to do the conversion, but again, I never saw anything about them doing it for the LNF's.

Custom pistons should be all that you need. Unsure if you'll need the Crank Position Sensor spacer, or if that is an issue specific to LSJ's.

Hello, thanks for the help. I do plan on trying this. I already bought the block and the crank. I see zzp has a piston for the 2.1 conversion. It is out of stock at the moment. I was thinking of trying the wiseco 88mm lnf piston. I assumed the blocks were close enough that when I used 145mm rods and the lnf wiseco piston I would get close to same compression ratio and the pistons would sit in the block the same in both the 2.0 and 2.4 block. I figured if I used the lnf wiseco piston I would still get the factory like bowl. I was planning on possibly trying some dumb things to this block. I have never had a block have a sleeve break but I was thinking of trying to reinforce the top part of the cylinder with some aluminum epoxy like the Honda guys. I figured I could find a way to get the salt out. Zzp girdled block is sealed at the top like this.

If you had bought a Gen 3 2.4L block, you'd already have a girdled deck.

Also, all Ecotec blocks are essentially the same in their fit, form, function. There are a few revisions/differences here and there, but they were designed to be like legos. I've used an LNF block with LSJ internals and head.

the gen 3 isn’t girdled

No offense but it sounds like you should a lot more research before doing this. Aluminum epoxy…really?

GM Gen 3 block is a huge improvement over previous shortcomings of the Gen 1 & 2 blocks because the factory girdling prevents the common cylinder wall failures.
The factory bracing isn't a full girdle... but it's still a girdle.

Pretty sure they had to semi girdle since they didn’t sleeve them. It’s too bad they didn’t do both. They would be 600hp blocks for sure hah

I thought the same thing initially too, but they are sleeved. Unlike previous Gens, the block is actually cast around the sleeves, so the deck is all aluminum and the steel sleeves are underneath that.

I thought they were a liner coating not a true sleeve. Interesting.

Block should be a gen 3, but I’m not certain. Block title said it was for years 2010-2017. https://www.ebay.com/itm/165015416535 That’s what I got. The engine and crank are suppose to be here tomorrow, but I’ll probably have to wait at least 6 weeks to do the build cause I can’t find rods.

Yeah, that's the one.

I might have 4 stock LNF rods in my garage. I'll check.

I’ll wait. The car would just break a stock rod. Thanks though man.
