My new 2.4!

I am happy to say I traded in my Auto 05 silver LS Sedan for this 5 spd 06 Red SS coupe . I would like to ask a couple questions though...

1) Why is the 2.4 BARELY faster than the 2.2 with so much more power??

2) If you own one, does your clutch feel kind of like something is turning under it? like a little bit of shakyness compared to other clutches?

3) When I park my car it makes like a constant *tink tink tink* sound like lightly tapping a piece of aluminum with a hammer? Any one else's do that??

Thanks

Pretty sure the 2.4's are pretty quick compared to the 2.2's. Plus you went from an auto to a manual should seem even faster. It was like light and day coming from an auto neon, to my manual 2.2.

3. My 2.4 Cobalt also makes the tink tink noise. Many other new cars do as well. Not sure what it is. But don't fret. 1. My 2.4 feels much faster than my girlfriends 2.2, so I'm not sure. 2. That's normal with the Getrag (I believe is what the Cobalts use). The Cavaliers/Sunfires had that feeling too. Enjoy the 2.4! I wish I didn't have to get the auto. Long story.

Thanks for all the help guys!! I think you pretty much answered all my questions...but the reason i say it doesn't seem much quicker was cuz i researched 1/4 mile times and 2.4 was like 15.8 and 2.2 was like 16.3? And SS/SC was 14.4...unless those were off? And no one has put up a time on the 1/4 mile list on this site for a 2.4....

Sounds like someone knocking 3 times on the trunk.

First off... Welcome to the family
Second off, the clicking is your exhaust cooling down, it ticks, dont worry. Other than that, enjoy your car, you picked a good one

Well, I looked and prayed and looked and prayed and looked and prayed till I came across this beauty. It was really hard to find but worth it. I still owed 8k on my LS so they gave me 7.5 and it was 15.4 for my SS. The payments only went up to $300 from $200 but for 6 years instead of 5

Terrible, people on the boards have run 15.0 with light mods. I ran a 15.0 with all my mods and that was my first time on the track

two 2.4 liter engines could be completely different. ours has 150-155 whp and another engine just as big could only put out 100 whp. just depends how its built

That 15.8 was at sea level....the higher your elevation the slower ALL cars will be.

there have been faster stock. driver mod. you put a better driver in the same car that ran 15.8 at sea level and you'll have a slightly faster time but none the less faster

So its 171 hp but only 155 makes it to the wheels?

Going off topic, but once I can save $300 and get the high rise spoiler I'll be super happy

Yeah, as far as the tick tick tick crap, as mentioned it's the exhaust system cooling down and what you're hearing is the thermal contraction of the metal becoming physically cooler. I think the 2.4L is a good engine. Decent power and decent fuel mileage.

I cannot wait for the 2.0 turbo to possibly come out in 2009. Already told the wife that we'll be trading in our 07 for that one.

first number is rated at flywheel--that number drops on it's way to the wheels.

As said already--the 5 speed 2.4L is a low 15 sec car

and about the ticking its definitely the evap canister, three ticks every time. if it was the exhaust cooling they wouldn't be at random and it wouldn't just stop at three the metal clicks a lot when it cools down.

well, i didn't read other people's replies. but what do you consider "so much more power?" 25 hp and and few more tq is not a huge amount. most manual 2.2's run high 15's low 16's and most 2.4's run mid-high 15's. maybe you expected too much?

it's MAYBE half a second faster at best. there is zero stock 2.4's in the 14's. most are mid 15's.

do the people responding to this post know ANYTHING about cars? or are people just talking out of their ass? what excactly is unbelievable about losing 16 hp from drivetrain loss?

manuals are high 15's low 16's. auto's will of course be higher.
