My "new" 2006 2.4L Cobalt!
Hey all, you might know my name from a thread about octane earlier this week, but this is my first post showing my new ride.
Here she is: 2006 2.4L Cobalt SS
Heres an interior pic of the headunit I got installed also. Pioneer FH-8000BT:
Anyways, I think the next chunk of money I spend will be on a budget sub and amp combo or something, the stock system really doesn't let me enjoy my music too much.
So, while I feel I might have overpaid for this car, I do enjoy it so far. Still need to do an MPG check to make sure its getting what it should be.
In terms of upgrades, I am thinking about getting the K&N intake I have heard you all raving about. Then an exhaust. Any suggestions? I'd like something meatier and deeper than most exhausts I've seen on the cobalts.
Will the intake increase fuel efficiency? General performance? Or is the only difference going to be felt while racing (and the sound...)?
No other plans to upgrade anything else at the moment.
So yeah, that's my new car. $13,300 plus tax with 29k miles on it. Hopefully I didnt get too ripped. I was looking for a new LS or LT and ended up really liking this used one I found at the dealership. Plus they threw in that $350 headunit for free because I wanted ipod capabilities.
Ok, I've rambled on long enough. Nice to meet you all, and hope to talk more in the future!

Very good looking car. Good choice! Definitely intake and drop the thing first. The intake really opens up the car and then eventually go full exhaust. Drop and tint are probably a must for appearance.

haha yes, thats paramore. Its pretty much Paramore, Coheed and Cambria and then come christian stuff that plays through my stereo so far.
Thanks all, expect some PMs, hehe, I'll need the help im sure.
"Drop it". How so? any suggestions, and do you have any links or price quotes?
Tint: max tint in New York state is 30%, but that seems pretty dark to me..., again, suggestions?
Is the K&N the clear winner for price vs. performance?
Thanks all and look forward to replies!

u can add lowering springs to the car..they sell for around 100-200. the injen is the best intake out really..the k/n is a short ram where the intake filter is in the engine back where u can get heat soak vs a injen with a also a cold air which the filter is at the bottom off the engine bay getting cold air which is much better results. yes 30% is the law..i have 15% check my gallery i have pics in there if u want to check it out

i like my K&N but i only skipped the injen because of the size of the puddles in my area. otherwise. buy the injen. a drop. you can get ok spring for under $200. and fairly easy to install. very nice car. i love the SOM color. good luck any Q.s just ask.

well, so far I love it. Havnt bothered to try MP3 CD's so I dont even know if it plays them to be honest. But I had the USB cable installed to come out inside of the glove box, and it plugs into the charger input on the iPod. Therefore, you control the iPod through the stereo itself, and if you pay extra for the installation, controlled through the steering wheel as well.
Anyways, I like it alot, but I also got it brand new and got it fully installed for no additional charge on the price of the car when I bought it.
Going through playlists, searching alphabettically through artists all by using the controls on the HU itself? Awesome.
I was looking at the K&N because it seems people really like it, and because it is supposed to give 16 HP, sounds nice, and mainly because its made specifically for the 2.4
They cost about the same though it seems, so I really don't know.
So, does anyone have any recommendations for exhuasts? I like lower, meatier sounding exhausts, but I'm just curious. Links would be awesome too.
thanks again all,
~Rome
P.S. I live in Buffalo NY, which means 6 months of snow per year and epic potholes. makes me nervous about dropping it and about the lower intake. Hmm.. however, Rome is still very much a noob. ^_^

For exhausts, I can guarantee everyone will just suggest what they have in typical fashion. If you don't want rasp, make sure you stick with a catted downpipe. Long tuge and short tube headers won't sound too differently from one another, but will create more/less power in certain areas of your powerband. Shorty's typical generate more low end power, mid-length headers will get you the best of both worlds, and long tubes will give you mean high end power. As for cat-backs, the louder ones are the ARK N2, SLP Loudmouth and Megan Racing. The quiet ones are the GMPP Touring and the Corsa Touring. The Magnaflow, Corsa Sport, GMPP Sport and ARK DT-S are somewhere in the middle. Theres more exhausts out there, but those are the popular ones.
Hope this helps
