my zzp heat exchanger is done

I've had my heat exchanger since february and up to may the car was just sitting there lol.... and ever since may I've been driving it pretty much only on the weekend. It has a very bad leak on the back side where the fins are. There is no sign of a rock or something of that nature kicking up and banging it up. Also in the pics you can see where the top part completely came apart.... and how heat exchanger looks like its frowning. I never bottomed out or hit anything as well. So that can't be a possible explanation.

My ott h/e took a major hit from a pothole, core was good, just cracked the welds on the bracket.

I would bet money I know what happened with that h/e...

When I installed mine, both the left and right top corners rubbed on some extra material on the frame/crashbar/whatever. This left 1/2-5/8" gap between the two inner h/e mounting tabs and the crash bar. Needed to remove about 1/2 inch of this material to get everything flush or else all the stress would be on the outer corners of the h/e as you tighten the two center tabs to the crash bar, constantly pushing down on the corners of the h/e.

Did you remove any crashbar "extra material" above the corners of the h/e?

well for now, I have to wait on getting a new one. First I need to get new brakes.... so for the mean time I'll just have to redo the hoses for just one h.e.

After looking into this, the OP informed us that he cut the outer brackets off and mounted this heat exchanger with only the center tabs. This won't work because the majority of weight is in the end tanks when the heat exchanger is filled with water. Unfortunately, he found out the hard way.

sure does lol.... damn brackets wouldn't mount properly so we put a saw to those bitches without thinking twice.

Well gotta pay my ticket off(150bucks), then get new brakes, and then I'll be able to buy a new one.

Customer smashed into an object in the road. Messed up his car and crushed his ZZP HE> Funny thing is that it didn't leak a drop. We've sold over 100 of these pieces and cannot be held responsible for one where the mounting tabs were cut off and the unit was installed improperly.

Just ordered my ZZP H/E because, much to my surprise, BWoody discontinued their Cobra H/E brackets!

Ordered it yesterday morning. It's arriving on my doorstep TODAY with UPS Ground

: to ZZP.

You hit a cat at 90? Ouch! At least it ended quickly for him.

I hit a skunk at 85

Luckily, it barely got my right front lip and tire. I washed the car four times before the smell went away.
