Question New Mod - Cel?

I will be picking up a 2.5" CA catless downpipe from a local seller. I am wondering since it is catless will it throw a CEL? How can I remove the CEL and if I didn't remove it will it hurt my car?

It will unless you find some way to fool the catalyst monitor O2 sensor into thinking there is still a cat in there. I don't know how the CEL will affect the performance of the car, if it will at all.

You can find someone with hp tuners to turn the rear o2 sensor off, that will get rid of your CEL.

Nothing will happen to the car! The catalytic converter is strictly an emission control device. You will get the CEL though until you get it tuned out or trick the ECM.

Why go catless? Do you enjoy shooting flames out your exhaust?

do you have to get emissions tested in your state? if so then going catless won't pass emissions...

buy two spark plug anti-foulers from autozone, drill one of them out. Put em together and put the o2 sensor on them. This will space the sensor far out and prevent a CEL. The rear o2 doesn't effect anything at all.

ark has the o2 sensor CEL eliminator. It works the same way as the spark plug anti foulers that hockeyman was talking about, just no extra work involved. Attach it to the o2 bung and then attach the o2 sensor to it. I have one on my downpipe and it works. http://www.arkspeedracing.com/Univ_C...20-%200001.htm there's the link. Of course this will cost more, but it's the easier way to go. The other option would be to use the anti foulers. That should solve your problem.

yes, you'll get a CEL. You can:

a. Have it tuned via HP Tuners to shut off the rear O2 sensor entirely
b. buy an O2 sensor spacer (will require a little hacking of your exhaust heat-shield)
c. just drive around for a year and a half with a CEL, like I did/am doing

If you get the one from ark you won't have to hack your exhaust heat shield. Easiest way to go.

Yea it's not that big of a deal. I already have the CEL from the intake so it's not like the CEL from the d/p would have bothered me more, but my d/p came with the CEL eliminator from another member. I'm about to get my car HP tuned next week, I can't wait . I'm still waiting on my stimulus check as well, the money for that is going toward getting a bike. I'm excited about that too

i have this problem too. how does the ark spacer not require you to cut the heat shield? my rear o2 is throwing codes, but there isn't enough room to put a spacer and THEN the o2 sensor. the wire connector is already pressed up against the side of the heat shield (after the cat). i just dont see how there's enough room for the spacer...advice? insight?

I don't know. Mine fit right in there ok without having to cut the heat shield. I'll take another look at it again during the day.

I have the same issue, except I don't think even modifying the heat shield will give me enough room. I've emailed ARK, they have no advice and said I can return it at my expense... which is not much help. I'm not too happy about it.
