Novice Supercharging alone?

How hard would it be to supercharge my 2.4 standard assuming I have very BASIC mechanical skills and have no freinds that pretty well dont even know how to hold a wrench?

you would have to get tuned for it... or you get the ecu in the kit. but it would probably be a 3 day job for you.

i did it in about 16-20 hours over a week period. i learned a lot doing this. and i'm in the same boat as you... very basic mechanical skills.

i did not do my own tuning however, one of my friends has done it.

there are two great writeups in the how to section (beck's and hunterkillers's how to supercharge a 2.2/2.4) that will help you out. hunter and geneculley are awesome at answering questions too.

It's not just the mechanical things, but wiring, hose routing, etc. that can be a challenge. A good tune is a MUST. Also, with a manual, expect to have to replace the clutch too.

This.

And expect to have the car down for 3-7 days, depending on how quick you work

I'd say the project is a 6 or 7 on your scale.

It shouldn't be too hard. If you have access to a lift that would help a lot.

First of all, if you DO have a problem and get stuck, do you have anyone, and i mean anyone, that you can call for help? Do you have the funds to pay someone else to finish it if it comes down to it? If you don't, I suggest you wait a while and learn before attempting the project. You always need to have a backup plan. You're not building a birdhouse, you're working on your means of transportation here and it's an expensive little toy to screw up. I would look around this site a little. There is bound to be someone in your area that is willing to help. I know there are plenty of members here that would kick it and help with the install for little more than a 6-pack of budweiser.

well I have freinds(lmao) but most of them wouldnt even know how to change oil if you catch my drift, I know how to do basic things like oil changes, Alt changes, fuel pump etc etc...

but this would deff be the biggest project I've ever done on a car and I would literally have nobody to come to for help. I wouldnt mind paying someone who knew how to do this for help but like I said... no one that I know even knows how to do anything like this...

Oh and this isnt an immediate thing or a hurry, but i keep watching youtube vids of Blown 2.4 cobalts and I want to do that sooo bad now. I plan on finding a good cobalt club in my area and seeing who else has done it to a G5GT/SSn.a and going from there.

I have to be honest, if you have very basic mechanical skills I would stay away. Every build has its issues and you have to be fully prepared for it. If you don't have the right resources you may have to pay to get someone to fix it and that is going to hurt!

While I gathered this up for 2.2's a lot of it (if not all of it I think) will be true for the 2.4's. Go throught the build and see what kind of work actually needs to be done and what kind of errors people made.

Originally when I was going to do this solo I planned for 7 days, I don't have much experience either. I wanted to give my self time for install and the troubleshoot on what I probably forgot/did wrong on the install, then time for the tune / highway hijinks. I now plan on doing it with some friends who know their way around cobalts. I will probably still take a few days off or work + weekend. If you run into issues calling into to work cuz your car is in pieces prolly wont fly.
