So It's quite possible that I broke an O2 sensor while installing my header, dp, and catback, seeing that I just got a check engine light today

What are my options...or will I just have to replace it?

 

just replace it to be on the safe side. but if you did a dp did you delete the cat even a high-flow you will need to move the second O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream so it can read different readings.

 

Well the dp has a high flow cat, so your saying there's the a code that it can't work now anyways? The only thing is I installed it on tuesday and it just happened today.

I hope that's all cause unfortunatly I did accidently tap the tip of the O2 sensor and I know how sensitive that are.

Need some more input asap.

And sry if this sounds stupid but would a broken one affect my driving (aside from the light)?

 

What code is stored...did you read the code or just assume it's your O2 Sensor?

Your CEL could have lit because your new cat is not "cleaning" enough...the ECM may be detecting a weak cat.

 

or mayb your cooling fan stopped working...get a your car scanned so you know exactly what the code is. this way your not playing the guessing game and then shooting a shotgun thinking its this or that

 

Ok, good call. I guess I just assumed since I put everything on a few days ago. When you say it's not cleaning enough that's just because it's high flow instead of a standard one right?

 

The second HO2S sensor checks your cat...if the O2 content is not within the required parameters a code will set -- the ECM will think it is a bat cat. This has been addressed in many threads about cat-delete and aftermarket cats.

 

if you broke your main O2, your car will run like pure **** or not run at all.

If you broke your secondary O2...big deal. Car will run perfect. Just throw a code every 500ish miles.

Goto auto zone....get it scanned..remember it/write it down..google it.

Haha, yea, I drove the car last night and it ran fine. I'm headed to work in a bit, I'm gunna stop at autozone riight before and have them scan it and I'll post what it is when I get back.

And wow, I didn't realize the remote starter doesn't work with a CEL, I was freaking out thinking something else was wrong lol.

 

I think the code was P0420 which could be a "bad cat" lol. Would a broken O2 sensor throw off a different code or the same?

I just installed a GMPP Manifold, 3" DP and HF Cat I am throwing the code now, I have my own Scanner cause my 07 SS/SC is notorious for throwing some dumb codes. anyway the P0420 "Cat efficiency below threshold" is a known enemy especially after doing really any exhaust work to almost any car. Any 1 know if this will pass a NY State Inspection??

i had the P0420 code forever after i installed my ZZP midlength header downpipe combo. I thought it was my o2 sensor also but its not. It was just the cat couldnt "clean" enough so it threw a code. I had the magnaflow high flow cat built in the combo when i bought it.

 

I just miss the remote start haha...guess it's time for a tune.

 

po420 catalytic low efficency it sees high flow rating and thinks the stock cat it blown out get a tune and turn off the 2nd bank o2

if you have any codes at all when trying to pass inspection whether they are visible or not in your gauge cluster you wont pass the readiness test. it will fail every time. go to a county where emissions dont matter and register or find a guy who will pass you if you give him some extra cash.

almost everyone gets p0420 with an aftermarket downpipe, big deal. It won't hurt anything. Your cheapest option to get rid of the light would be to get two spark plug antifoulers from autozone, drill one out, and insert. Next option is to buy the ARK CEL eliminator, but that's basically paying 30 bucks for the antifouler mod. Your most expensive option is to get your car tuned and turn off the code.

 

So with the ARK CEL eliminator, that will allow you to pass inspection?

it should make you pass, it spaces out the sensor so it thinks you have the stock cat.

 

also man.. long as you don't have any other cels' in NY you can have 1 un ready sensor.. if you NEEED to get inspected before you get a tune then just reset the battery and goto get your inspection..

 

wrong sir.. sorry, but i tried both...first the ARK.. for our 2.4's, there is not enough clearance. you put the spacer on and the O2 sensor wont go on...not enough space.it gets wedged between the spacer and frame rail.

as for the Spark plug non fouler. i was only able to get 1 out of the 2 on for the same reason. thought 1 would do it, WRONG. you still get a light. i bought a scanner and i clear the code about every 2 - 3 days. nothing to do about it then to HP tune it out
