picking up a 2.4 auto, need some opinions

Oh yeh i know, my buddy actually advised against making VVT changes until i have a better exhaust setup on the car, but we will see how it is at the track after the ignition and fuel is dialed in. PE ramp in is set to 2 and PE delay is set to 3000 rpm. If you like i can email you a copy of the tune file, i dont think i can upload it as an attachment here.

Back from the track, results were about what i expected, i figured it would run low 16's bone stock with the stock tune, ran 16.5 @ 81 without foot braking it bone stock. Traction control and knock retard the whole way down the track, dont ask me why the car knocks so much being stock.
Wound up getting the car down to 15.9 @ 86.5 pulling more timing, richening the car up more and using the HHR's low end VVT maps which smoothed out the low end pulling power alot.
went from 2.514 to 2.463 60 fts and 6.999 to 6.774 330 marker times. Im thoroughly convinced that when im finally able to eliminate the knock retard and play with the high end VVT ill be able to dial it down to the mid 15's.
Temps were in the low 70s and IAT's were above 100 consistently the entire time. Car does a hell of a burnout though, sucks having the open diff.

I'm really not kidding, I easily should have been able to break into the 14's NA but I'm not a great drag racer. Working on your skills will let you pick up way more time than some VVT tables ever could.

I realize that but its an automatic, there really isnt much too it, brake stall it, then romp on the gas and hope you catch traction. THe RT doesnt really matter, I could sit at the light being green for a couple seconds and the end result time would still be the same because it doesnt calculate your time until you roll past the first line when staging.

So i got some time to take a look at the header and downpipe a little further, little disappointed in some areas, but otherwise i think it was a better purchase then some of my other choices.
Welds look good, and the overall build quality is good, collector also looks good on the inside, although i would have liked to have seen a merge cone in there. The flange on the other hand was a bit of a disappointment. The openings on the flange did not match the gasket even remotely, large areas overlapping the port of the head. Ill have to compare the way the gasket matches the stock manifold before i make any judgement of whether or not to gasket match it. But IMO that was my only real complaint. The downpipe is perfect, but i am unsure if the secondary o2 is going to reach, and they dont include any caps and only one extension which seemingly is for the upstream given its position on the header.

So after being thoroughly irritated regarding the quality of the exhaust flange mating up to the gasket, i decided to hit it with the air grinder and my cylinder head porting tools. Didnt need to be fancy with it, just needed to get it close to the edge of the gasket.
However I had alot of concerns regarding how much to take off with the way it is constructed. Upon further investigation I can see that the primary tube was just not butted up against the flange across the majority of the port and the gap had not be filled in with weld at all through the inside of the port like you would expect.
The end result turned out relatively good, I left a little bit on there because again areas where I was getting very close to cutting through the primary or the weld I wanted to leave, mainly just put a slight bevel so that it would be a complete obstruction as the exhaust left the port.
I apologize for the shitty pics i took them with my cell.
and by comparison

Running good, havent had a check engine light since I replaced the fuel injectors, it passed inspection with flying colors, and im on to the tuning and modification process. I averaged about 25mpg cruising at about 80-85mph on the AC expressway last night, and I get about 19mpg city right now. Im sure theres room for improvements if i lean out the part throttle a tad.

Nice nice, you show her alot of love, she will love you too
I had to post here again , you gave me inspiration to finially do my fuel filter. and LOL WOW. It was seeming kinda sluggish especially from a complete stop. I can now rooast my winter tires from that complete stop. I was absolutely STARVING for fuel . I still almost cant believe the difference. I done injector cleaner, run 93, air filter, clean the throttle body, a few other things, but damn that dam fuel filter..

Yeh shes getting her windshield replaced tomorrow over at safelite with the AIR BLU coating to reduce UV ***********. THe windshield was destroyed by the previous owner to the point where I couldnt repair it with my polishing compounds, and I couldnt see anything when light hit it at night.
That fuel filter...yeh hard to believe they can get clogged like that. Must have to do with the way the tank and pump tray is designed that it sucks up alot of sediment. All the car's ive ever owned ive never had one that bad. My integra had a 15 year old filter on it, still wasnt clogged. A combination of ISOHEET and redline S1 fuel injector cleaner was enough to clean the whole system out and keep those injectors i got off of twooz running tip top.

holeeeee **** am i in a bad way right now. Took me about 2 hours to get all the rusted stock stuff off, wound up just sawzawwing the dp off so i had room to work, the bolts were rusted so badly under the car they werent even the original size they should have been. Get all that done, manifold off etc etc, ready to put all the new parts on, go to put the header on.... slide the new gasket on....slide the manifold on.......manifold doesnt want to go on. Wiggle wiggle, rock it side to side....GOD DAMN BOLT HOLES ARE OFF ALIGNMENT WITH THE HEAD!! Had to call it quits today im exhausted still fighting off this cold or whatever i caught, ill have to take it off tomorrow and file the bolt holes on the EGR side so that it will slide on correctly, just hope it isnt too far off.

Manifold? As in the header?
When I was helping a friend instal his midlength onto his 2.2 it was ridiculously hard to do. It seemed like the bolts were not going to go on and they weren't spaced out enough or something. After a few hours of struggling I was able to get it sorta on and then begin putting on the nuts which made the header start sliding in. I was beyond pissed. Lol.
