Pieces of metal in oil filter?
Ok, no bashing.. lol I've never seen this before so when i looked at it i was kind of dumb founded. Car has 4,800k on it and i am doing it's first oilchange. The stock filter if you look through it has little shrouds of metal in it.. Is this normal? part of a break-in cycle or should my ass be heading to the dealer..

its perfectly normal nothing to worry about all ecotechs have specs of metal in the oil filter the first oil change. i have done a bunch of first oil changes on these engines. its just left over **** from when the engine was machined.

the engine parts need to wear into each other. You should of changed the oil at 500 miles to get that out but i dont think you are in any kind of trouble. I saw the same thing in my grand prix when i did the transmission fluid and the mechanic said thats normal.(shavings not chunks of metal to clarify)

Make another mistake like that and you're going to get banned for causing all the posters to go "nuts" trying to figure out what you meant. Don't do it again....
I'm **** when it comes to oil changes. I've always cut apart the metal filters too to check for debris. Usually find small bits of metal -- mostly aluminum from the bearings on a new engine......like others have already posted....just keep an eye on the metal. You'll know when you have a problem!
