Plastic thing
There's a plastic thing covering the engine. I unscrewed something and took it off, and then I left it at a cabin. Do I need the thing? I suppose it would maybe be called an engine cover.

If you're talking about that, yeah it is just an engine cover. Not having it on won't hurt anything.
Since it is gone, I suggest pulling that plastic spacer for the oil cap off of the engine... it only exists for use with that cover.

I figured maybe it would not trap heat under the engine so much, maybe preventing heat soaking. Of course it won't fix the fact that my car is slow. I will solve that one another day.

lol you won't notice any difference in engine temps either.

Yes you made it lighter, yes you *very slightly* improved underhood cooling, and yes you significantly increased engine noise into the cabin by removing that piece.

Oh yes you will. If you get a short ram intake and leave that stupid ass engine cover on, you will be heatsoaking within 20 minutes of driving. I put my intake on a little over a month ago now and even when it was less then 10 degrees outside, my car would heatsoak like crazy.
Took the engine plastic off and it has not heatsoaked since, even when its warming up now.
So for a short anwser: Taking that engine cover off will help prevent heatsoaking with an aftermarket intake. I never got any with the stock intake though.

I'm honored to be considered among the facepalmer greats such as rossshady. But at least I was not too far off. In the end it doesn't matter much, and if I supercharge it, it might actually be faster without it. Also, would there even be room for it with all the extra stuff a supercharger adds?
