raced and 03 civic si turbo

Ok so me and one of my friends were coming back from the local walmart when some guy he knows with an 03 or 04 civic si it was the black hatch lowered with rims looked nice. Well anyways my friend was saying it has an greddy turbo kit intercooled and all. And Then not even 2 secs later the civis starts messing with me and sure enough i here the blow off valve and it sounded oh so nice, i wasnt really wanting to race thinking he'd romp my ass but whatever. Ok so i pull next to him were doing about 35 ish and he honks his horn three times and we take off, He pulled ahead about an car length in 2nd (and let me tell you i could here his turbo spooling and it sounded preatty awesome) and once i hit 3rd gear i slowly pulled on him about an half and car length and stayed there untill 110 when i let off. So when the race was done my front bumper was sitting slightly behind his door. Ok i know i lost but i must say i was really surprised and i think if i would have been by myself as the guy in the civic was it would have been really close. Once again if i would have only had the ecu tune..

Agreed. Not trying to down your high but I dont thinkl it was an SI. i dont even think it was intercooled. But none-of-of-the-less you stuck with him so good on ya.

it had to be an SI if it was the hatchback version

are you sure he didn't just have some little noise maker? either that or hes runnin about 3lbs of boost. a stock 160HP car + turbo should walk you ...

No im positive it was turbod and i agree he should have kicked my ass. i dunno about he intercooled part though i think he must have had an cheap setup or something. But i know it was an si because they didnt make the base model civc in an hatchback that year did they?

Well you have an Intake, Exhaust, and Header. You are probably around 165 170whp....What do si's dyno at? Like 140? Add another 60-80 hp....

Agreed, I'm not trying to downplay your win but I will say the average tuner and boosted car owner knows squat about boost and tuning. Not to put down you guys, but not even SOME Cobalt SS guys know about how superchargers work, how boost works and how it effects your motor.

Good win none the less.

It wasn't a win...He said he kept up with him. I think it could be possible if he wasn't boosting that much and had nothing else besides the turbo.

I got the guy who was with me to talk to him because he knows him and ask some details. So heres what i discovered. Ok it wasnt intercooled he was running and greddy turbo kit with stock injectors and fuel pump and he was only running on 5 psi and the turbo was some kind of mitsu turbo suposted to be preatty small but he said he got it dynoed and he said it made 178whp ( i dunno on what kind of dyno or what). He says he has an intercooler injectors an fuel pump and hondata on its way so he should be pushing alot more pretty soon.

Being that the car comes with 160hp to the flywheel stock i really doubt it would dyno that high. More like 120 probaly.

actually it should be closer to 140whp stock...just slightly less.

Makes more sense now since thats just a bare bones turbo kit...from 140whp to 180whp is not too bad from only 5psi on a stock engine.

Which further proves my point of how people don't know how to tune a car or even build a decent turbo setup. If he knew ANYTHING about Turbo setups or Boost in general, he would have never have ran a non-intercooled turbo setup. He's either cheap or ignorant or both.

Once again, I'm not down playing you keeping up cause from the sounds of it you should be keeping up with a car that has such a poorly made and tuned turbo setup.

Your anger is in the wrong place...no one is trying to be negative towards him, we are being realistic.

NJHK gotta agree he is right good keeping up but people shouldnt do things they dont know about a turbo without a intercooler is like washing a car with a car cover on it no point even at 5 psi with a right setup he could easily be in the 13 sec range 1/4

Nice kill! Like Brian said he was probably running only a safe amount of boost for his engine. Besides those engines hate bolt ons.

I was thinking the same! I never see any 2.4s around here. I was hoping to race one sometime and see how they perform. Oh and to rip those SS badges off of it as I fly by.

Sorry just had to say it.

Even so, he told his mom what to buy...hence he's still the one picking what goes on his car and his ignorance lead him to what he has now. Even if my mother was paying for my turbo setup, I wouldn't let my turbo setup be installed without an intercooler...it's just stupid to do so.
