rattle on car

Hey all. I figured i would post here to see if i could find sone help.

I have an 06 2.4 with 102k manual. Have had a few issues

1)So when its pretty cold and the car has been sitting for a while, i occasionally get a rattle that will go away after a few seconds.

2) I always let my car warm up to 100 degrees before i take off. Reguardless, when i start driving i will get a rattle starting at about 2500 rpms. This goes away after awhile but I have been a bit worried. Car has seemed to be idling a little rougher at idle and sounds inconsistent.

Have done spark plugs. Went with bosche. Have also done oil change. 5w30 mobil 1.

I hope yall can help. Thank you!

changing the tensioner is simple. it's a 1 1/4 or close to it socket. for added assurance, pull the valve cover and ziptie the chain on the cam sprocket

So its not as involved as changing the timing chain itself? I will look up how to do that then.

Also, i tried getting a video, but she didnt make the noise today. Go figure. Also, its like sleeting here so thats all you hear. Haha

i can't really hear what is going on though. just like i said, it's probably your timing chain tensioner. with that many miles, i'm sure that's the issue. simple fix

Yeah, it was hard to capture. 16 seconds is where it makes a rattle/knock. But thanks, ill look into doing the tensioner then.

do it soon. if it fails completely, that's quite a bit of money you'll be putting out towards fixing it.

Yea it was my phones problem.

Definitely hard to hear. Tensioners are usually louder.

Can you get under hood vid?

I couldn't hear it but when you hear it does it sound metallic and rattly in noise or more plastic and ticky in noise?
If its a metallic noise take a look at your flex pipe. Its not uncommon for those to just fall apart on the folds. It happened to my 2.4ss and it happened to my friends 05ss/sc.
When I upgraded my downpipe the old one had the flex pipe hanging on by a sliver of metal.
When it was really bad you could also hear the breezy buzz of the exhaust leak but at first it was hard to detect other than the rattle.

I had a strange springy noise on my 06, probably not your issue but, check the metal shield that covers the front of the gas tank, there is a plastic plug clip that could be loose. I could move the shield up and down freely and it would make a rattle noise from the vibration.

Look in front of the passenger rear tire under the car you should see it, its the metal shield that has vents in it.
