regardless, that's pretty solid for a 2.4, nice flat curve, whomever tuned it did a good job.

Our speedo's really are that slow, you hit a stock limiter at 64.5mph

the shift comment was based that most cars ( i never tried this in a cobalt) will cut all fuel causing the car to shut down if the RPM limit is exceeded by a large amount. in other words, it will shut the engine off. which, in the case of a high RPM shift from 4 to 1 would probably be the only chance you would have of still having an engine were that to occur.
When fuel and spark are shut down in the event of a missed shift it has absoluetly no effect on actual engine speed. It will see about 12000 rpm when shifting from 2nd to 1st. No matter what the engine does in reference to fuel/spark at the speed the engine is fucked, either valvetrain or rotating assembly lubrication it is still fucked.

I used the load situation to try to explain it to you, but I guess it didn't work. Rev limiters help during high load/high speed situations, that is it, nothing else. I go to school for this **** man, I'm done arguing with you if your not going to understand it at this point.

i can believe the slowness of the speedo, although, my car has always been... weird, compared to other 2.4s.

as far as the engine being fucked when over reved, that's not always the case. sure, it can and will happen, but i've also seen cars get totally abused and fire back up. combustion stopping CAN save a motor, or, at the very least help prevent an explosively lean mixture. Also, in the case of a stuck throttle (not likely in anything modern) it can save the motor as well.

I just bought a 2010 Cobalt SS today. I was wondering if anyone knows why the rev limiter is set @ about 6200? My wife's 5 spd HHR with the 2.4 is a little over 6500.
Looks like the 2.0 would be able to turn more rpm where it has a shorter stroke.
Please advise.
Thank you.

the forumula for HP is: (TQxRPM)/5252

thus, any increase in rpm will mathmatically net you more HP.

when i got tuned my car, i set it at 7k.

to answer the OP, you can use hpt or trifecta to increase the rev limit.

I would concur with the idea, that you should never remove it. Purely for Derpy mis-shifts.

i can do 0-100 km/h in 1st, to 2nd on f23. 3rd tops out at 150-160 km/h for me, 4th takes me well past the 220km/h end of the spedometer. on a dyno, 4th ended at 240 km/h. i wouldnt be to suprised if i could get close to 300 km/h in 5th, but i would only try it on a dyno. Not many safe highways to do that on around here.

Because on a stock engine there is no additional power up there.

The correct tune will allow you to adjust the limiter. If you just simply want to rev your car loud, then adjust it to 5 or 6k.
