wow 7K and a broken balance shaft? would be the first I've heard of that, must have been a freak occurance...that sucks.
IIRC Level Zero doesn't advertise this kit because they can't gaurantee long time reliability right? It would suck to spend all that money on the motor just to rebuild it later.

It could have been a freak accident, but damn it, im not letting it happen again. At this point in time, it seems more reliable to simplify the number of moving parts. Theres a few cavs that have gone 40,000 miles with the bsd, worst-case, another rebuilt after 50k? i'm okay with that... and you can bet i'll be doing another delete then too..
btw, i only had 15k miles on the car and the single ZZP motor mount i had shaked the car more than other ecotec's with full solid mounts... the chance that the balance shaft's bearings where jacked from the factory are very high. Looking at the aftermath, the bearing (now sitting in the oil pan) went first.

finished porting the exhaust side. heres some crappy pics... they really dont do it justice.
After only 15k miles, stock ports:
middle of shapping the port with 80grit:
this is a horrible picture, bad lighting or something... in person this shines very nicely.
i dont think i have the patience to do the intake as the size of the runner is very long. I did do these with the valves in place because i bought two valve spring tools and niether where small enough to remove the valves... but i didnt go deep enough to touch the valves, just gasket matched header and ports and feathered that middle section alot.
oh well, im happy with my half-assed attempt.

the dealer replaced the ecu and it now cranks over but doesnt start.
most likely at this point a cable going to the wrong sensor and/or case relearn.
he'll call me later today with another update. I _might_ have a running car by 5pm today!

I've decided to rename my cobalt Murphy.
About 3 this afternoon I picked her up from the dealer, brand-new ecu and she started right up. I was SO EXCITED until i had a horrible time getting it home.
Not only did they not refill it with water, they didnt put the hose clamps back on the hoses, or put the belt back on the alt... Why do i have such horrible luck with dealers?
long story-short, i overheated on the freeway coming home, i ran out of battery 10mins out of the dealership... and then when i got her home and replaced everything, changed oil and got her running perfect... the ****** starter died.

I havent posted updates in a while because its just more bad ****.
I put the new starter in, started it up and got tons of blue smoke (correction: white smoke) out the back... turns out from overheating on the freeway that i blew the headgasket and was filling #1 up with a ****-load of water. She ran VERY well for having a blown head gasket, idle was smooth, unnoticeable vibes from the BSD with all stock mounts. I'm sure this will change when i put the ZZP mount back in.
I've already taken the head to get milled and ordered a new head gasket which will be here mid-next week from cosmetic. and the new zzp downpipe+gaskets has come in so i can get rid of the existing exhaust leak.
Lets hope this is the last of the issues...
