I got the head back yesterday after being milled and pressure tested. my final compression ratio will be about 9.2:1. should be very safe for an eventual TVS...
Yuup. I wanted a "root" or "rewt" license plate, but looks like im gunna have to get "murphy".
honestly tho, the issues i've had are to be expected when the car has sat for so long and you do dumb **** like rushing to meet self-made deadlines (i need a job).

I had the same kind of problem with my 1988 Monte Carlo SS. It kept breaking down on me so finally I decided to get a new car. So I got a brand new 07 Cobalt SS and now the Monte Carlo is sitting in the front yard broken.

i took apart the m62 yestersday and ported the inlet to the size of the LS4 TB that i'll be using, and cleaned and ported the outlet... as you can see i had issues in the corners and just did the best i could... the inlet is smooth, but the pictures are coming out like crap (much like my exhaust ports from before). I believe its an issue with my phone's focus not taking pictures of dark areas well..
I didnt take a 'before' pic, but you can get the idea from this:
As you can see, i enlarged and hot-knifed the middle triangle and left the two ovals on the side completely stock. it took alot of time (all day) for both inlet and outlet.
also, uploaded some old engine pics i just hadnt gotten around to (see first post)

exhausted...
gasket came in today, ran around got everything prepped and installed. however when i went to turn it over i got more white smoke. at first, nothing, then slightly more and more... it got too dark to troubleshoot it anymore and im beat. i pulled the offending plug from before and it was clean...
tomorrow i'm going to try torquing the headstuds down an extra 10lbs and see if i can get a better seal... arp states 80ft lbs on these head stubs, but i think 90lbs should be fine and might solve the issue...
Took her to the gas station, and i have to say, even with a small water leak its driving VERY NICE... almost drove her home tonight but realized the fans arnt coming on (yes murphy, yet another problem to fix)...

You now have white smoke which indicates a coolant leak in to the combustion chamber which would indicate a head gasket or cracked head/block.
I would not torque those ARP head bolts/studs down past what they are recomended as you will stretch them past their tensil strength and that will make them weaker and then unusable when you have to reassemble your engine when fixed correctly.

I think, as you have figured out, by now that you have much larger problems than a blown head gasket. As you stated in your first post you had blue smoke from the exhaust. This would not be from a head gasket as that blue smoke indicates oil burning, such as a lifted ring land or scored piston/cylinder.

I know tensil/stretch is a big issue with rod bolts, but head studs would be fine 10+ lbs. besides, arp says something like 80 with the supplyed lube, and 88lbs for 10w-30... I pushed them to 92lbs (with moly-lube used yesterday) and replaced the oil and the water leak went away...

engine wise, doing well... working out gremlins from the tranny and other places... all stuff to be expected when the car sits for a year...
however, with the release of the tvs's number... i'm 90% sure im just going to go turbo.
