i say go for it man, but you'll miss the auto if you have to deal with stop-n-go traffic.

For the trouble/money required just sell and buy a manual.

Instead of ss/tc you should get a used ss/sc with low miles and get stage 2 upgrade then you would be as fast as a ss/tc and pay way less.

you would be the first to do it. its wayyy to much trouble. dont forget buying a new ecu and tcm and getting them reprogrammed by chevy. then ur car retunned for the manuel. wiring... this would easily run more than 6k. not worth it.

The auto's in the 2.4's are mean. However, in stock form they are a slouch.

Get your tranny tuned via HPTuners....then you wont want a manual.

A Stock for stock 2.4....1 with a manual, 1 with a TUNED auto...the auto will walk away.

i don't think so. there's more involved than the speed of a shift, and the 4 speed auto is a HUGE factor. unless you're saying that you can take off close to a second from an otherwise stock car with just a tranny tune.

thats crap, it weighs TWICE as much (the tranny) unless the driver of the 5spd 2.4L is some huge motherf**ker. theres no way it can walk away also being the drivetrain loss is also more with the auto

Which you can.

Multiple members have taken off .5 - 1 off their 1/4 mile times with just a tranny tune.

For real, the gearing would kill the auto I feel. And the added weight of the auto. The auto still loses.

And my friend did his own auto to manual swap and it was an 8 hour job, alone. It was also his very first tranny swap, his car is a new animal now. Id say its worth it if you really want it, youd probably spend a total of $3-4000

Either sell it or live with it. For the amount you'd spend doing the swap you'd have a nasty turbo set-up.

yeah i just did a 5 spd swap into an S14 240SX and this thing literally felt like it gained 25whp, being that its almost 200 pounds less, better gearing, better drivetrain loss, and the 5spd ECU helped too

Its crazy the difference that a tranny makes. I honestly wouldnt have thought it was the same car if I was blind.

have you seen a stock auto 2.4 with only a tuned tcm run a 14.9 or let a lone a low 15sec?

Just to compare the auto's (tuned and untuned) to a 5-speed

2.4 SS, MODDED
1.)celicacobalt,13.70@104.60 w/2.14 60',coupe,auto,TK/E/T/ST
2.)EcoBoost,13.78@101.74 w/2.09 60',coupe,auto,TK/E/T/ST
3.)BULLETSSMOKE,14.91@96.62 w/2.26 60',coupe,5-speed,I/H/DP/E/T/ST
4.)MARIN007,15.04@92.80 w/2.19 60',coupe, 5-speed, I/E/ST
5.)thekingsSS,15.08@94.47 w/2.31 60',coupe,5-speed, I/H/E/T/ST
6.)Dunkinuts,15.15@93.89 w/2.39 60',coupe,5-speed,SM/ST
7.)GTP,15.17@92.33 w/2.35 60',sedan, 5-speed,I/T/ST
8.)PpAzZ1101,15.33@90.27 w/2.30 60',coupe, auto, I/E/T/CD/ST
9.)cobaltcruisin,15.99@84.97 w/2.34 60',coupe,auto,I/ST

Show me proof of a stock 2.4 manual racing a stock tcm tuned 2.4 auto w/ the auto "walking" away and i'll retract my statements. Until then i call bs
