No reason why not, as long as you understand the cost involved. There are other transmissions that are out there that are better... Getting a built racing tranny would probably be about the same and have worlds more value.

Auto is good for a turbo. Thats the advantage but if your not doin a turbo manual is good.

Auto is good for turbo, so is manual. Auto still has more parasitic power loss, regardless of set up... but auto requires less of a 'driver mod'.

I just don't think there's value in doing a tranny swap on an otherwise brand new car --- if we're talking about an 80-something Fox body, that's another matter.

But why go through all the time and expense just because you 'want' a manual, should've thought about that when you bought the thing imo.

All I have to say to this subject, most every one here knows what I have done to my Ion and the best time that I have pulled out of it because I fail at driving this car is a 15.1 at 94mph

Also I have tuned an automatic cobalt with the same mods as myself, before the tune he was running 15.7-15.8's in the 1/4 mile after I tuned his car he ran a 15.1 at 89 or 90MPH. And from a roll depending on where we started it would go both ways because of gearing. A bolt on and tuned auto will keep up with a bolt on and tuned manual.

But they will not walk away that is for sure

start out in a level parking lot or something, and take your foot off the brake. put the car in first, and just slowly let out the clutch untill the car starts moving. you'll probably stall a few times, but practice makes perfect. the ideal way to start from a stop is to get to the engage piont, THEN Give gas. revving the car up and slowly letting out the clutch is not the right way to do it. unless you're on a hill with people up your ass. but you don't want to make a habit of doing that.

with some practice, you will be fully in gear with the clutch out at around 1,000 rpms and with zero clutch slipping.

you're not too far from me (relatively) so if you wanted to drive out after you get the car i'll help you learn.

Just to compare the auto's (tuned and untuned) to a 5-speed

2.4 SS, MODDED
1.)celicacobalt,13.60@99.00 w/2.14 60',coupe,auto,TK/E/T/ST
2.)EcoBoost,13.78@101.74 w/2.09 60',coupe,auto,TK/E/T/ST
3.)BULLETSSMOKE,14.91@96.62 w/2.26 60',coupe,5-speed,I/H/DP/E/T/ST
4.)MARIN007,15.04@92.80 w/2.19 60',coupe, 5-speed, I/E/ST
5.)thekingsSS,15.08@94.47 w/2.31 60',coupe,5-speed, I/H/E/T/ST
6.)Dunkinuts,15.15@93.89 w/2.39 60',coupe,5-speed,SM/ST
7.)GTP,15.17@92.33 w/2.35 60',sedan, 5-speed,I/T/ST
8.)PpAzZ1101,15.33@90.27 w/2.30 60',coupe, auto, I/E/T/CD/ST
9.)cobaltcruisin,15.99@84.97 w/2.34 60',coupe,auto,I/ST

Show me proof of a stock 2.4 manual racing a stock tcm tuned 2.4 auto w/ the auto "walking" away and i'll retract my statements. Until then i call bs
had to fix it lol anyway for the money this would cost just turbo the car and the auto can hold the power easily.

My car is auto and my fastest time is a 15.17 with a corrected time of 14.98. And that was on a fairly hot and humid day. So you can run in the low 15's
I have an intake, header, downpipe, tune, tranny mount inserts, and muffler. I now that there are plenty of people running low 15's in a stock 5 speed. But with the money that it would cost to swap the tranny it really isn't worth it. Get a high stall convertor from pro torque, tranny mount inserts, tranny cooler, and get your tranny tuned and you are in good shape with much much less money spent. Tune time did a heck of a job with my tranny tune. Redfocz rode in my car ask him what he thought of my tranny tune. I don't know if they can tune an 08 but they use ls2 edit not hptuners so maybe they could set you up.
by the way may 60 ft is 2.28 which is better than a lot of sticks out there.

or.... you can just get an SS/TC cause there hot as hell, and that way all the SC guys will envy you.

Just think about the new seats, and the hot 2 tone interior, and be nailing corners at 90, watching all the SC guys slamming on the brakes. lol

Who cares? Just enjoy the car you have. It's really not worth that amount of money to shave a few tenths of a second off of your 1/4 mile time.

So how to you like the JBP cams, since you are really the first 2.4 to have them and have a running car, unlike (G5MIKE) I have been torn between getting cams or a turbo set up. I like the fact that are motors can put out decent numbers with just bolt on's and cams, but the cost of the cams are so much all most equeal to a decent turbo. Plus with cams you will need the valve springs to rev up past 7500 and at that point a slight port and polish would go hand and hand.
