im getting tired of seeing that pic. just answer the op's question. if you want to flame, go elsewere.

anyway, OP, id get the trans am. tons more potential and its RWD. youl be much happier with that and itl last you much longer than a cobalt.

It all depends on what you want.

2.4 will be better in bad weather
LS1 faster and easier to work on (for the most part)

Gas mileage if its a 6spd sadly will be fairly close on the highway.

If you just want a dd stick with the ss 2.4

If you want something thats cheap and easy to mod and be quick while being cheap then its the LS1

Honestly they are 2 way different cars.

Decide on your needs out of the car then go from there.

Ya thats my main thing right now is the difference in the gas consumption because it will have to be my dd, and i see what you mean its still just an idea im not leaning to either end yet just trying to see what ppl think of it.

Honestly if you do a lot of highway driving the LS1 wont be too far off if its a 6 spd.

I own a stick 2.4... buy the T/A

however.. i've never met a person whos looking at a V8 and says "huh but hows it on gas?" usually when looking at a sports/muscle car gas mileage is your last concern

I have a 2.4 ss and a 93 z28 6 speed. It seems that you could probably round up 5 grand and just buy a TA and keep the balt too. My 6 speed gets more mpg on the highway than the balt does and is just unbelievably fast.

I have a 08 SS/TC and a 97 Z28. Even tho the cobalt kicks its ass in a race the straight N/A power and RWD make it more fun. T-tops help as well lol

get the trans am, i have a 2.0L s/c cobalt, and my older brother has a trans am ls1 ws6. the trans am is a hell of alot faster. but it isnt a good DD. my brother doesnt and wont drive it in bad weather. that means no rain and he covers it from like nov -feb/march whenever the snow stops n melts. trans am is alot faster but the cobalt will still handle better stock vs stock until you do some suspension mods like sub frame connectors n strut bar. i know i can take turns at speeds he wont try in his trans am lol but FWD is different from RWD. as for gas. my cobalt is supercharged and it guzzles about the same amount of gas as his trans am. i think a turbo might get some better mileage

I say cobalt if you know what u are doing and find good deals u can get a good setup for a cobalt that is fun... Also fuel economy is the difference I look at the most if u are gonna be using as ur DD. Save some money and then get it the trans... but thats just me. I guess cause in Colorado RWD suck. stupid snow.

Cobalt:
-FWD
-4 banger
-expensive to make the same power
-2.4L

T/A:
-RWD
-V8
-Great power potential
-Huge Aftermarket
-5.7L

I'd go with the T/A all day long.

Honestly, with a turbo set up on the 2.4L he wouldn't be getting much better mpg then the T/A. And a good set of Blizzaks would solve the RWD-Winter issue.

Would snow tires really help with like 500hp?

There's a handful of 03-04 Cobra owners that make it through winter with Blizzaks. And it doesn't matter what kind of hp you make, it's the TQ that effects you from getting started. Once you're moving Blizzaks will take you anywhere you want to go.

I know one of the Cobra owners is in Colorado and another in up in British Columbia. Not sure about the others.
