Supercharging a 2.4
Ok...now i know there have been multiple threads in the past on this but i want to put it all right here......i am back and fourth right now between a supercharger and a turbocharger and i want to know what it would take to put on a supercharger....if i were to buy the sunfire supercgarger kit what would it take to make it work on a 2.4 other than the tune....i would stay a deliberate more but i have to go so ill check this thread whn i get back....thanks for any help in advance

i've been looking into this myself... for the most part, you're right, but the issue comes into the power steering.. the cavi had it, the balt does not. i am under the impression that the belt routing is vastly different.
the trick is to get the manifold and blower off of a 2.0SC. you need that, the injectors, the SC coolant pump, a HE (prolly aftermarket) a tensioner and pully and belt.

i've been (slowly) amassing the parts i figure that i'll need off of a 2.0SC. it's abetter fit

What is the stg2 kit for the 2.4??? Didn't know there was such a thing is there???? Thought it was only on the supercharged ones???

you can't DO a stage II on a blown 2.4 because it's set for the 2 litre.
you'll have to do a custom tune. doing some quick pencil math, a stock blower pully... that's just about right for a high comp 2.4.

Belt, Idler and tensioner, Intake, Intake manifold/IC, HE, HE pump, S/C, alternator, tuning, and maybe injectors all off of the LSJ. I'm sure there is more, but that is all I can think of at the moment.
Here is a comparison of the LSJ belt routing vs LE5 belt routing.

putting the m62 on a 2.4 is a cool idea, but it leaves you with the same limitations that the 2.0 guys are dealing with, the only method of boost control is your pulley size.
In comparasion to a 20G from hahn, the SC would be less expensive all around, good ebay-sk1llz you could get your **** together for about 1-2k. No fab needed GM makes everything you need, but you'll need to tune it or have someone do this for you.
Its a good idea... but you'll top out on your pulley upgrades, spark will be retarded alot to allow for this, and then you'll be running with a 250-300hp 2.4L cobalt that you cant do anything else with except switch to a turbo...
If this is appealing, wait a few months after the hahn kit comes out and buy used m62+manifolds from the 2.0 guys.

that's kinda what i've been looking at. it looks to be an afternoon swap with a good friend and a compressor.
i'm seeing what i can put together, i'm aiming for next summer...
there is a lot of little ****, for example, the upper rad hose and stuff, so figure a week for the first few people to do it...
as far as pully size, that's actually a blessing. the 2.4 shouldn't be as strong as the 2.0, so being positive displacement, it should be easier to tune/predict.

You'll also notice AC compressor lines at exit and AC lines need changed over to the LSJ ones as well as moving the washer bottle to the passenger side so you can use an LSJ intake. Oh, and the LSJ dip stick...
For the Heat Exchanger we could go with a Cobra unit and perhaps a meth injection kit.

Next question is will the G85 lsd from the SS/SC fit our trannies? Anyone?
If so BOOYAAA...we have a good set up going for alot less than a turbo kit...and its factory proven and supported by new parts if these break.

Another issue is the map sensor for the LSJ v. the LE5 but switching over to the LSJ vin and maps should allow us to use the LSJ MAP sensor.....
****, someone give me the parts and i'll post a starting point tune for the stock ecu/maf sensor. You wouldnt switch your maf sensor for a turbo kit, why do it for the SC ?
I've data logged all the way to 140mph, we have penty of room to run a few psi with our mafs.

i've never seen any proof of that.... if people are running supercharged cavis on a similar trans, why not a balt?

if you want a lot of power, go for the turbo because it ispowered off the cars exhaust
if you want power but LIMITED power, get a supercharger because it exists off of the rotation of the engine

any body stuff your dealer will still have to fix on warranty. That includes full interior and exterior stuff. It also includes suspension stuff. Unless they can scientifically prove that your modifications caused whatever is broken to break, they legally have to do the warranty work. just for future reference...
