yea i changed at like 1200 to mobil 1, and then i haven't changed it since and im at 7700 miles and the oil life monitor says it has 33% left, but it's really dark, should synthetic be really dark with 6500 miles on it??

i love everyone on here that thinks every 3,000 milesfor an oil change is over kill, ignorance is all i have to say
oil is the most vital part of your engine, and its what anywhere from 20-50 dollars for an oil change? big deal its worth it in the long run, if your dumb enough to change your oil every 7,500 miles then i feel bad for you or the next owner of that car once you sell it. ive seen oil after 7,000 and its black and shitty and provides horrible lubrication, for those of you who still refuse, have fun with engine problems down the road
all in all be smart and change your oil often... F*** the DIC
someone please try to argue this

I've seen f'ed up bearings and rings, melted pistons and damn near anything else you can think of. I'm with dimeo09 on this one. The 2.4s came with reg oil in them from the factory. Every other car did as well unless it says on the oil cap...mobil 1. If it doesn't, then no dealer will put mobil 1 in it unless you tell them too. Believe me, I work at one. I changed my oil at 1500 miles to mobil 1 5w-30 and I'm at about 5500 miles now and I think I'm going to change it again this week end. Better to be safe than sorry for 20$.

I didn't read through every post, so my appoligizes if I repeat anything. First off, Manufactures' that set the intervals or programming of OLM systems are in the buisness of selling you a new car, not providing maintenance or parts. The effects of damage will not appear immediately, it will take some time, most likely you'll be out of warranty by then. Second, I would change my oil on my last car, '00 Malibu, at 2500 miles intervals. The car never had a problem, leaks, noises anything. Traded it in with 120k on the OD. As far as synthetic oils, I change mine at 50% or more left. Yes, the sythetic oil does break down, gets very dark and will still collect contaminants. If anything goes wrong down the road, at least I know it wasn't for lack of maintenance.

so have you seen oil from a cobalt, or another car? because i did an oil change after about 7,000 miles, and it still looked pretty damn good... i was very shocked, and you would probably be too

For what it's worth, I started putting synthetic in my Pontiac when I bought it (70k miles) and changed it every 5k-7k miles, and the engine was still running great when I traded it in at 153k miles. (too bad the suspension was shot, and the a/c was almost finished. I might have kept it a little longer) Eh, I know someone will still get a good deal more out of that car before it's done.
