yes, loads of members here use mobil 1, me included, or some other type of synthetic oil. you most likely won't feel the car run any better, unless it was running crappy due to lack of oil changes before.
when i did my first oil change, i asked my father "this will help it run better, right?" and he said "Why, was it not running good before"?

Yeah man, you can switch over to syn w/o an issue. But you can never ever switch back to regular.

if you have the plastic engine cover off, take out the extender. the extender is not needed, it's only to make the oil cap fit over the plastic cover. take out the oil cap, and twist and pull hard. when i took mine out, it felt like it was going to break. but it should pop right out. then jsut put the oil cap back onto the engine. looks a million times better.

What could possibly hurt by switching back to regular? Heck you can even mix the two; there won't be any problems. In fact the manual says its OK to add regular oil to synthetic if you need to top it off between oil changes.

something about the motor picking up the characteristics of you oil, maybe it does something to the metals?

Its no problem at all to switch back and forth with synthetic and conventional oil......has no ill effects on the engine at all.....after all, there is such thing as semi-synthetic that is a mixture of both.....visit quakerstates website and they have a write up on "oil myths"....its quite interesting......Later

Though this is my first post here, my family and I have been around racing for a long time. My dad went through an oil and lube class sponsored by Volvo. They had run every engine oil to the breaking point and the only oil they recommened was Mobil 1 Synthetic. There was noone even close to second place. My dad was a diesel mechanic and could tell by sight which engines ran synthetic because there was no wear on the engine parts even at 200-300,000 miles.
My father in law is the same way. After having many wear problems on the rod bearings on his 57 Chevy, he switched to synthetic and has had much better luck.
I just returned from a 1309 mile trip each way. I had regular oil in on the way to and then switched to synthetic on the way back. The trip there in my wifes Grand Prix I got 28.4mpg only stopping for gas. On the way back even having road construction 4 times and 4 additional stops, the gas milage was 29.4.
We have never dynoed an engine to see the difference, because after we started running sythetic, we have never felt the need to go back.
