Question Traction Control on 2.4 (Fuel Eco)?

girlfriend has the new cobalt sport.

I was just wondering if the fuel economy is effected at all when the traction control is on? Or is it like an electronic type deal where its only on when it needs to be. I have no idea how it works on that car.

it's electronic. basically, if the ABS sensors see that the front wheels are spinning faster than the rear, it cuts power.

So if it cuts power then it lessens fuel consumption there for improving gas milage. If you were to spin the tires and go no where, there goes your MPG

well, true... but the car doesn't know that.

if you jacked the car up, and just let it run with the wheels spinning at 70, you'd prolly gett like 80mpg on the DIC

Nope, I drive with TC on all the time unless I know I am going to get on it. I avg about 24-25mpg for 50/50 driving.

good to hear

My gf just picked up an 08 Sport and I noticed that the fuel economy wasnt as good as I thought it should be. I was thinking it had to do with the tc being switched on. I know it will get better as the car is broken in (my car took about 6months to get to its best). I also think my gf must have a heavy foot!

The 08 models have a switch for the traction control? My 06 2.4 SS can't be turned off.

My parents 1997 Grand Prix actually stated in the owners manual that you could get a 1-2mpg increase by switching the TC off.

WELL, in the 05-07 you can turn it off by pulling up on the parking brake 1 click. It wont put any pressure or use the brake but itll turn off TC.

Yeah you can turn it off with the E brake ... and be serinaded with the sweet sweet melody of the E brake beep. I do mostly city driving and my cobalt gets roughly 18.5 mpg. Maxxed out some ware around 26 mpg on a long road trip to the back woods of Wisconsin. I wish some one would make an aftermarket turn off your TC kit for the 07 balt.

good plan. at that point it would make more sense to just disconnect the ABS sensors
