do you want to learn? if so, forget the other options, buy hptuners and start learning.

if you don't want to learn, don't get a tune. save the money for mechanic's bills and keep your warranty.

It is very good. Vince works with you for what you want vs a "canned tune". All you need to know is how to plug in the thing to your car. thats it. no programming or anything!

to answer the original question, there is zero point to having both. the custom tune would definately be better, the only advantage I see to the jet chip is that its easily removed should warranty work be required. and Im not sure but I think the jet chip is cheaper

Yes, it's either one or the other. If you stick the jet module on a tuned ECM, you'll just be negating the effects of the tuned ECM which would be pointless.

If you don't want HPTuners, get a trifecta tune

Jet chips is a waste

Trifecta is so easy to install

He's asking about the Jet Chip module, a plug-and-play tuning device that gives more performance

It mounts on the ECM (middle connector) and uses the ECM's input and output signals to change the timing, fuel, and Tranny shifts....i.e....a piggyback device. I went with the Jet Chip module and am happy with it -- I don't want to take it out and feel the lousy low-end power again!

If you can afford the HPTuners AND can tune your car that's cool, OR if you know someone that CAN tune AND can TRUST them that's cool too, BUT if you are like 90% of Cobalt owners and don't know how or don't know/trust anybody that can then this "$239 + shipping" Jet Chip module could make you happy! I recommend it...but then again, can you trust me?

....and it's one or the other, don't get both!

Wow...that much for a chip when you can get a full custom tune from Vince for like $275?

Does Vince mail it to you and can you remove it for resale?

I also think the wording "custom tune" is overrated. I seriously doubt there is enough difference between 2.2 equipped Cobalts or 2.4 equipped Cobalts that you can gain any identifiable performance gains. Ignition timing and fuel burning is more of a science than magic.

well its custom in the sense that if you have aftermarket parts, he takes that into consideration and tunes accordingly. so example...my tune isnt too complicated because i am completely stock and use regular 87 fuel, so he just does a few things to it. now, Tom [NWAE Cobalt] has a more complicated tune because he has cai, exhaust, some other little random things and uses premium 92 fuel so Vince tunes for that. I use the words "custom tune" because its not a canned tune. Vince mails you the stuff, you upload it, give Vince some input, work with him a little and send the little package back.

When you state "you upload it" what does that entail -- do you need to have HPTuners or does he send something with which to upload it?

He sends you this little PDA looking thing and it plugs into your car and you just upload it. You dont need to have anything else other than what he sends you.

To help Red07,

I got the tune this week from Vince at Trifecta.

The PDA uploads the tune to the car, car resets and is ready to start.

Also, i needed a few things changed so he emailed me an update, i uploaded it to an SD memory card and put it in the PDA. Worked like a charm, quck and easy.

Service was great, i talked to Vince several times before returning it.

OP.... not both.... it is one or the other. the jet chip interrupts signals and then changes them. so if you tune your jet chip will toss that out and use its own programming.

So its a good idea to keep the stock chp if ever you feel like doing a real tune.

Well, like someone stated. if you bring your car in for warranty work. if you have a tune, they could reflash and kill that, or may say something that your tune affected a busted part. The chip is a good idea for people who dont want a custom tune. Just something to give some gains and if worse comes to worse, can be popped out andcar goes back to stock. Previously it was the best and only option for the 2.2 guys. Now with tuning they have the same choice.

What the jet chip does is interrupt the signal from the ECM and adjust it to its preprogrammed standards. So if you did do a tune to your ECM... any benefit would be lost because the chip changes it.

I was big on trying to get details and results about the Jet Module. I still think tuning will give you the best results but this is a simpler and removable option.
