turbo auto question
hahn is making the turbo and im hopeing to buy. but my question is will it be able to be used with the automatic will they have a specail kit for the automatic or whats the deal for the auto or is it too soon to ask? thanks

it depends on the level of boost... after a certain psi you will need to upgrade.... auto's are fine with a turbo though, most of the super fast turbo cars are auto.... ie, the cobalt running 9's is an auto...

I think we'd be better off running a supercharger with our 4T45... with only the four gears we'd probably fall out of boost range when it shifts... a supercharger would provide more consistant boost.
From GM's own stats the 4T45 can handle 205 lb/ft of engine torque on a daily basis with no problems. We're at 160ish stock... so that's 40 more lb/ft before we even need to worry about any upgrades. The G6, Malibu, and Vue use this tranny... and they're all running more power than we are.

Does the 3.9 use the 4T45E? cause it's well over the 205 lbs/ft rating. The 3.5L is at that limit from the factory.

Automatics usually die because of heat, not power. If you have an transmission cooler on for insurance, you should be fine.

Manuals would fall out of boost between shifts...why? Remember, they have to release from the gas to press the clutch, then press the gas. Releasing the gas stops exhaust flow and putting down power and drops boost pressure momentarily.
Automatic transmissions if held at full throttle will stay at that PSI straight through. So if you're running 7 PSI, you'll be running 7 PSI from start to finish. Also, automatics can build boost off the line, so that's another advantage.
Don't believe everything that GM says. If you haven't learned by now, GM plays it safe when it comes to power. There have been plenty of people with the 4T40E (granted, not a 4T45E but pretty identical) and are running way over 200 WHP and running strong daily. I myself am aiming for that as well....and will reach it soon.

ok so turbo will fit nicely and work with the auto thats good news just install a tranny cooler and good to go but The Stock tranny will limit your Torque at the input shaft unless you don't care about reliability.. what exctually dose that mean

Every Stock Tranny is designed for and only for up to a designed torque load on the input shaft.
The torque usually matches the stock motor torque of the car that it is installed in..
Adding toruqe beyond it's design will reduce the life of the torque converter..
It must be built and watched like a hawk

A Friend of mine was going to turbo his automatic protege...
After finding out how much it was going to cost to rebuild the ATX so that it would hold up to 12 Psi... He decided to swap the tranny for a MTX because it was going to cost 1/3 less..
We did it in my driveway in a weekend for less than $1000.00

Make sure the wastegate on the kit you buy is set to open that low then, you can inly go up with a boost controller...
