turbo problems, blowing oil past turbo rings

While doing some more fine tuning on the g6, there was oil dripping out the tail pipe. We've been having issues with smoking for a while now. We thought it was crank case ventilation, but now I'm thinking it's either it's the feed or the drain line. The feed is a 4an without a restrictor, the drain is an 8an and it's location is at the deep end if the pan, about 3/4" from the top of the pan. The turbo is a Bullseye Borg Warner S200 series I believe, journal brg.

Please help, this is pissing me off to no end, thank you.

That sounds like alot of oil if it's making it all the way out the back and coming out the tail pipe. Was the turbo brand new? Sounds like it could be a bad oil ring

Yea turbo was brand new, that's why I'm thinking it's something else.

Do you have any shaft play now? if you get blow by past the rings you would have alot of oil in the intake trac as well. check the throttle body area. if not then check the turbo seals and check for shaft play. where did you get the turbo from?

I hate to say it but I am thinking turbo seals. Do you use a turbo timer? if u dont wait to shut it down after u run it, itll melt the seals like nothing. Happened to my integra when it was turbocharged. I hope to god you dont have that problem. good luck man. BTW bad ass G6

Too much oil flowing to the turbo or not draining fast enough. Have to see pictures of the drain line. I know of other runnin a -4an wth no restrictor on these turbo's so I' thinking its drain line backing up

wow i totally forgot about that resitrictor, good call. I had one. not too familiar with this excat turbo and how it deals with oil pressure. But Stiner sounds like he knows what to look for. looked like this

I'd run a restrictor, but have been getting mixed answers on it. The drain is a straight shot to the pan, so flow isn't an issue. A buddy of mine has a 00 civic si with the same feed/drain/turbo and has no issues.

mmcgee123 how big is your drain and where on the pan does it drain

Thanks guys

It's like the size of 3/8 in hose it drains into the highest part I could drill on the pan it drains above the windeg tray I belive

From reading your post, it pretty much confirms my thoughts on my drain being too low

Yes it's prolly backing up bc the oil level sits that high I'll try to get a pic of mine later

Not sure if the oil pans are the same as the 2.0L but if they are the same the inside should look like this to avoid oil sloshing back up the line

Do not use a restrictor on a journal bearing turbo. There are very very very few cases where that's necessary.

A .080" restrictor fitting is actually recommended on this turbo but many run without ones also alot og garrett journal bearings recommend a .065" restrictor but it seems that aslong as your drain line is probably set up theres no Repercussions fro running no restrictor

It actually depends on how much oil pressure you have and where you're pulling your oil feed from. Drain plays a big part in it too.

yeah fair enough that was a generalizaton. On 4g63's running a 4an line they need to run a .080" restrictor or they run into similar issues than us but we seem to be okay runnn no restrictor I dont think zzp does and hungry doesnt on his S256

strictly speaking of S200 series Bullseye turbo's that is

Also does yours have a little bit of a dip or a "dead leg" as it passes under the trans. Or do you have a std trans?

Does your drain have a slight dip in it while going under the trans?

Also, would you recommend putting a 90deg fitting right off the pan and routing the drain in between the trans & engine?
