Exclamation Turbo question

So I just wanted to get some thoughts on some turbo's. Me and my friends have been going back and forth over which turbo go with, for the 2.4L. Were considering the GT2860RS or the GT3582R which is the t3/t4 hybrid 60 trim. A couple of my friends say's the GT35 would by perfect for our car's engine displacement and that the GT28 is to big and wont spool quickly. It just doesn't make sense to me how that's the case when the GT35 is technically higher up in the food chain i guess you could say. If somebody could let me know

umm if i remember correctl the 2860RS is the disco potato and spools up almost instantly.. that being said a 35 wouldn't be bad either but the first question is whats your power goal?

GT2860RS is FTW. Spooled up by 2700 RPM, very nice usable power!

About 250-270 is gonna be just right for me

They told me that I could't go wrong with either one but that I'm not going to fully tap the power of the turbo gt28 because of my tranny limitations, with that being said it's an auto 2.4L for my girlfriend

Did I miss a memo, the 28 is bigger than the 35? I thought Garret's naming convention placed the bigger turbo with the bigger number, i.e. 35>28.

Garrett specifically uses the GT2860RS in their kit for the 2.4L so I think that would be a really good choice. 290 flywheel hp with only 8 psi sounds like a whole lot of potential to me.

Where did you get that from? No way is the 2.4 is goin to make 290whp on the GT2860. Celica didnt even hit 270whp on 11lb's. Besides, the 2860R runs out of breath at about 315hp so your only going to be able to make about 280whp without going way out of its efficiency.

The GT28 turbo's are small. The GT35 is much larger and if your going for 275whp, go with a GT2871R. It would give you potential for about 350hp plus great spool times.

I clearly said 290 flywheel hp.......big difference. With 15% estimated drivetrain loss, that equates to around 246 whp.

there is a garrett kit on ebay that comes with the gt2871. I also think there are the componet kits that come with it. would be a pretty nice setup for 300whp under 4k. theres also one with the 3071r
