Unhappy Unsuccessful dyno day for the turbo SS

Went to get redynoed at 13 psi today and come to find that I can only boost 10 psi right now due to an unkown problem that we think lies in either the stock downpipe and cat being clogged, bad intercooler efficiency, or bad turbo or boost leak somewhere.

Turbo is set at 13 psi but cant get past 10 psi. So now I have to look into getting a 3 inch downpipe and 3 inch high flow cat from somwewhere im not sure since i havent researched it yet.

Old numbers were: 232 whp / 243 wtq @ 8-9 psi
New numbers are: 201 whp / 269 wtq @ 9-10 psi

Just figured I'd let you all know. Once I get money together and find out what the best downpipe.cat combo i can get then we should see way higher hp #'s.

holy decrease in numbers..def gotta be a boost leak somewhere bro. if u can only handle 10psi and it cant handle 13psi

Nice tq numbers. Should get some good horsepower out of it once you figure out the problem.

you might be running to lean at 10lb of boost.

im not running lean, all my fuel trims are in great shape but i have a boost blockage from the clogged cat i think. Anyone have a suggestion as to a good downpipe and cat combo?

Why did it increase on torque, bit decrease in horsepower?
Shouldn't they both go up and down together?

it was all tuned with hp tuners with the boost fueler assisting. all the fuel and timing is in order, just physically not boosting to 13 psi.

i think it has to do with tq managment being totally turned off now since it wasnt before.

what do you mean by the turbo is set to 13psi? you need the intake manifold pressure to be reading 13psi if you want 13psi boost. Remember you loose pressure through the intercooler.

If you had a clogged exhaust your boost would be high and you wouldn't get the power you want.

But peak tq was before 5252 rpms. If it falls way off before then, it could have good low end torque but lower whp.

take off ur cat and just punch it out and see if that helps. if it does, then order the new dp and cat right away.

also, im not sure how easy it is for u to unbolt ur intercooler but if u think it may be ur intercooler blocked take it off, throw a piece of pipe acrossed and do a run like that on the dyno. obviously if tehre is a large improvement then u need new intercooler.

spray all ur clamps and stuff on the piping with brake cleaner to see if u can find the leak that way. thats usually a good way to find vacume leaks and such, im pretty sure it will work the other way around.

and of course, a bigger dp and hi flo cat doesnt hurt to do anyways.

NA > Turbo

j/k though it is

but that sucks i hope you figure it out, first thoughts is a boost leak b/c you are still making good TQ numbers.

Check all the vacuum lines, pull the downpipe and check the cat (you should see overboost though if this was the case), and boost leak test it. Make a testor out of PVC pipe with a guage and valvestem on it. Hook it up to the turbo inlet with a coupler and trace out the pipe feeling and listening for leakages! I bet somewhere in those three areas, you will find your issue.

thanks for the info. Im going to order the downpipe and cat either way since its a bottle neck in the system. I'm also waiting to hear back from hahn and garrett about the efficiancy of the garrett spec intercooler im running and the turbo efficiency of the gt2860rs to make sure with my 2.4 liter and that turbo that the psi just isnt there. I think my tuner said if the downpipe and cat doesnt fix the issue and the intercooler is fine then we would do a smoke test in the pipe to look for leaks.

on the bright side you have better numbers then you did from stock. it just cost you a few grand to get it there. good luck on the fix.

NA is king? NA > Turbo?

NA = No Lag?

Funny, When I punch the gas my turbo spools up instantly.

And to your "NA is king" or "NA > Turbo"...you only say that because you cant afford a turbo kit.
