weird engine noise

I Was going to post this in the problems section but i dont know if it is really a problem so... my engine makes this low almost knocking? ticking? noise.. i know ecotecs are pretty noisy engines, i just wanted to know if anyone has heard the same noise coming from the engine. You cant hear it while driving only at idle. Let me know.

Both my 2.4 and 2.2 Pursuits have that noise. Almost sounds like GM V6 piston slap except very light.

I hear a very slight tick at idle....pretty normal for lots of 4 cly cars. I wouldn't call it loud or excessive though.

That noise is the one you hear once you turn your car off. I took my cat off for an couple of days and welded and straight pipe in( huge mistake) but it still make the noise im thinking of but on my car its not loud or annoying what so ever you can barely hear it. But once i put my cat back on it still sounded the same. (motor noise wise)

My car made a hell of a noise last summer when it got hot. All of you new SS2.4 owners, just wait. I have 35000KM on my car now and it runs fine, just that noise comes when you sit idling and pull away.

I posted this first awhile ago, I'm sure glad to hear others are having the same problem.

I hear a ticking noise that seems to come from underneath the injectors on the front of the engine. Only when its running, and only when its idling. Its not the cat, i understand and recognize that noise, but this one is straight from the engine. BTW does any one have a stiff shifter with the 2.4L? Are our trannies that shitty? I have asked around and searched for threads but i never get a response.

Pretty noraml the ecotec engines have been called the eco-tick for the simple fact that they do make some funny noises especially when cold. Good tip of advice is always let your car warm up to at least 100 or so degrees before you drive it.

You guys are probably right but just to be on the safe side what grade of gas are you guys putting in your vehicles, could be premature fire, because i bought my car Ive always put in the highest octane i can get my hands on and i personally have never heard it make any ticking noises sounds clean as a whistle...... i would try putting in premium and see if that makes the tick go away

take a piece of 5/8 tubing and go searching for the the source of the noise.

i'm willing to bet the 'ticking' your talking about is the injectors.

asking these types of questions on forums reminds me of that old show 'kids say the darnest things', your not going to get a right answer about global warming from a 7yr old, so go find out for yourself.

I get the ticking when I'm in idle or right after the car is off. It seems to speed up somewhat after the engine is off, and lasts about 3-4 minutes.
