kind of off topic but not really... can you buy the full intake (k&n) at advanced auto parts? i know you can get the OEM replacement but can you get the whole thing at the stores?

Im not gonna reccomend the GMPP one I have it on my car and its way over priced for what it is, like 280.00 shipped. On top of that its not a reusable filter its just a foam sprayed cotton filter. I got notable gains ditching the gmpp filter for An AEM dry flow. So for what essentally comes out to 320.00 you get what the other guys are supplying for 220.00

They're basically all the same thing. Sure, some are short ram and some are cold air, but all will give you the same ballpark of performance gains. Overall though, i'd say the K&N b/c its the only intake on the market actually desiged for the 2.4 LE5 motor. I'd use the K&N, but I bought my AEM long before the K&N was introduced for the 2.4 (2.2 and 2.0 versions had been around a while), plus the K&N won't fit with my Ingalls ETD, so my AEM stays.

Dunkinuts:

the thing is that the bend for the injen like that is when you want to go COLD AIR. If you want to go RAM AIR it will look exactly the same as the GMPP one...or any SRI for that matter.... so that bend is just with the CAI and it acutally doesnt hinder performance because your sucking in cold air....

OH and BTW the 16 HP gain is for the 2.0 s/c engine.. you wont gain 16 hp from an intake.. more like 5-10...
Who cares if everyone has it? Its under the hood and no one sees it or cares anyways, lol. Its just an intake. Theres a reason everyone has it, and its b/c its the only intake actually engineered for our car. Won't throw CEL's like my AEM. Plus, CAI's are overated. A nice short ram performs just as well, if not better, and has no risks in rain. I like my AEM, but i'll be the first to tell you I think the K&N is better overall.

Short Rams dont perform better than CAI.. think about it... you suck Cold air in and then it goes into your engine.. with a Short ram you get the heat from the engine in the air that is sucked into the engine... so really Cold Air Intakes Do have a better proformance.... and theres no reason to worry about rain unless your in over 1-2 ft of it... lol in that case should you really be driving...??? INJEN has never thrown a CEL.... for me at least...

i was talking about the bend right at the intake manifold, the metal bit at the end of the intake with the logo on it.

I have the GMPP intake and would only recomend it if you want to put a functional ram air hood or modify the intake where it breaths through the fender. Both will give you cooler out side air.The other thing you could do is take the rubber off that seals the intake to the hood and you would be similar to the K&N The K&N would breath better because it is open to the engine bay, but that is warmer air . There is/was a guy on here that cut two holes in his hood and put a scoop , looked alright . He tested with with the stock intake the GMPP covered (forced to breath through the fender) and the GMPP open to the air the GMPP intake numbers were unimpressive . However when it was open to the air he got about a 6.8 % increase in hp and 5.6 % torque of course there is no ram air affect on a dyno .

Your not gonna hear your intake once you get a full exhaust anyways, lol. Last time I could actually distinguish the sound of my intake was last November, before I put the full exhaust on.

well now that my exhuast is breaking in a bit more (1500 miles ) i am not sure if i want to change the exhaust and not just get a good intake and header. so then i can keep that nice "sucking" sound.

I just installed my K&N yesterday and at WOT it is LOUD, and its not so much a sucking noise but a lot of engine noise coming from under the hood. It's interesting because I've never had such a change in a car with just an intake. My SotP meter felt some more pull too on top end, its borderline quick! lol. I do like the little whistle sound that it makes when you rev the engine. Overall I'm very happy with it. One bit of advice, hang onto the lock-tite they give you to install the studs. If you set it down and it falls into the engine bay somewhere, its impossible to find!! I got mine on ebay for around $200 new.

You people are too concerned with the sound. I want performance first, sound second. My car sounds crazy loud and crazy good, and has the performance to go with it.

CA header + XTC 2.5" de-cat downpipe + ARK N2 cat-back = droner, vibrator, rasp....just plain loud. I LOVE IT!!!!

My AEM CAI was def loud when it was all I had, but the exhaust heavily overweighs the sound of the intake. You can hear the intake when I give it gas from a stop. You hear the "suck" sound briefly, then its all exhaust noise from there.

i am not really worried about sound all that much but i don't want a nasty sound coming from my car. that would make it sound like its falling apart.

lol, well alright.

I've had 3 cars with intakes + full exhausts, and none of them sounded like they were "falling apart". The only car that sounds like its absolutely falling apart with an exhaust is an EVO. Especially a cammed EVO. They idle rough and ultra raspy. But in a sense, I kinda like their sound......b/c even though it sounds like its coughing and wheezing......its probally packing like 500+whp.

technically yes because you are taking in colder air than in a short ram because it is not in the engine bay.... thus you will have colder air going into the engine thus more power....

colder air is denser thus giving more air to the engine then warmer air from the engine bay.
