Why 2.4 instead of SS/SC

Why 2.4 instead of SS/SC
When i tell people im thinking about getting the 2.4 they ask me why not get the SS/SC. Well first few things is because the 2.4 comes in auto (I know im going to be using this as a work car and a traveling car) I called my insurance and told them a SS and they said it didnt matter if it was a SC the price was still the same. Another reason is the 2.4 gets better gas mileage and well the supercharger is just hard on a engine for a everyday driver.

I own one of each, and I'll absolutely agree that for a daily driver the 2.4 is a better choice.
Here's why -
The mileage is much better, with the 2.4 you can get better than 32 mpg if you are light on the throttle.
It's a hell of a lot easier to drive - the ss/sc's transmission is very picky and the clutch is super stiff -- this makes it fantastic for what it's built for.. but really not that great for sitting in rush hour.
It's a much simpler machine.. even though the 100k mile warranty covers all engine and transmission parts on both.. I think the 2.4 has a slight advantage in long term durability by not being boosted..
Edit - The ss/sc does have a couple of big advantages though, number one being it's maybe a million times more fun to drive. It depends what you're looking for - if you want something good for a daily commute, then I'd tell you to get the 2.4; but if you want something that drives like a much more expensive and powerful car, the sc is the way to go.

i daily drove the ss/sc for a year , and it was easy enough to where i would get another one , you guys have to remember the car isnt a 10 second car , therefore bottom line DD is gonna be easy
i personally would never look at buying a cobalt sport but that is just me

MY SS/SC is my DD, and it does great in traffic.... and I don't know what you are referring to better gas milage.... yeah maybe a little I get around 29-30 avg on mine which is a mixture of city and highway use, along with the occasional "spirited" fly!

I had both 2.4 SS and a 2.0 SS. As far as MPG, they are both practically the same. So don't try lying to yourself there. The clutches aren't that different. The 2.0s is a bit stiffer, but by far nothing that will make it a hard DD. Hell, people with Exedy, Spec, and CM clutches DD their car with no problems, I think a stock clutch will be fine.
If you keep the car stock, the durability issues should not even matter.
It seems like you are trying to make the 2.0 SS out as a super race car. Its a mid 14 second car that is kinda fun to drive.

I'd go with the SS/SC, but that's just me. If your going into buying a car having doubts... think of after a year or two ownership, when you can't change your decision. Just test drive them both, go in both, pick which one you like better. The auto might be easier in traffic I guess. I wouldn't look at gas miliage since they're both nearly identical.

I test drove the SS/SC three times before choosing the 2.4 SS. The car I bought is loaded except for leather (I wanted cloth; it wears better under my big butt). I preferred the polished rims and small spoiler of the 2.4 also, although this became a moot point for 07 since those became available for the SS/SC. I also wanted the four-wheel discs which are unavailable in the base Cobalts. This car is my year-round daily driver; the extra horsepower of the SC was a non-issue for me since I don't use it to street race high-school kids (like this guy:

You're just making excuses to make yourself feel better. I average 25mpg in my IRL and i beat it on a daily basis

they are both good cars for their purpose. i personally got the 2.4l for a couple reasons including the auto trans. my wife cant drive stick and i aint gonna teach her in my brand new SS. another reason is that i wanted to pursue my own boost options and the 2.4L has some distinct advantages there; bigger displacement, VVT. also, its pretty gutsy in stock form

So why don't they make the ss super charged as an auto? Most people drive auto. Its not practical to drive a manual in very urban or hilly arias. Shure driving a manual has cool points but if given the choice would i have picked the 2.4 or the 2.0 SC i woulda gotten the SC hands down if it were available in auto.

Settle down there Wes, don't let the invisible flames get you! We were refering to the old debate (supercharger shortening the life of the engine).
(Going to pick my wedgie)

I chose the 2.4SS over the SS/SC for a multitude of reasons.
Those reasons are:
1. I wanted to be different......out here where I live, SS/SC's are a dime a dozen.....and 2.4SS's are as rare as can be. The dealership I ordered mine through actually informed me that it was the first 2.4SS they had ever sold. And modified 2.4SS's anywhere near I live are pretty much un-heard of.
2. Practicality: its daily driven, so I wanted the extra mpg, and the reliability of a vehicle w/o forced induction.
3. To help broaden and expand the 2.4SS community. Its much smaller than the 2.0 and even the 2.2 community, and I love being a part of a somewhat rare breed.
4. The looks. I personally find the 2.4SS to have an overall cleaner look to it. I much prefer the rear bumper, and I was never a fan of the SS/SC spoiler and front lip. I prefer a more subtle appearance.
5. And finally.......the color. 2.4SS's come in summit white, and SS/SC's don't.......simple as that.

I chose a 2.4 for some of the reasons above, but also another big one for me is that I hate the whine of superchargers. I know a lot of people love it, but I dont care much for it at all. Right now I have the gmpp touring exhaust and its one of the best sounding 4 bangers Ive ever heard
And as far as the na being more reliable, the 2.0 has a beefed up bottom end, as long as you dont boost or rev too much it should be just as reliable

i picked the 2.4 cuz im 17 and cant afford a ss/sc and even if i could..its to much car for a 17 year old..i would end up racing everyone and hurting my self, others or getting caught and lossing my license.
in the end im very happy with my 2.4, every day i walk out of my house i have a grin on my face, cuz my car is soo sexy :P
