Would this be crazy?

So my 2.4ss is an automatic and I cannot stand that fact. I am thinking about making it a manual. Other than switching out the transmission what would need to be done? Is this doable or even something I should consider doing?

Any info would be appreciated!

Matt

this. there is way to much to change out from pedal assembly to tranny to flywheel to clutch to wiring harness to shifter assembly. The list is much longer but those are the basics

Blahhhh, honestly I was pretty sure it would be more trouble than it was worth. Not sure it is possible to install a pop shift, or whatever they are called where you can tell it when to switch gears, either. Thats basically what I'm looking to avoid, trading it in, havent had a hiccup with the car and I know its history and its paid off, would freak me out to trade it in now!

Leave the car the way it is and put a turbo kit on it. The car will be faster with the auto. Honestly, out of all the cars at the shop, the 2.4 auto is the most fun to drive,(with the turbo). It has minimal mods and still rips. I went 11's with our turbo kit, valve springs, 110oct and slicks. 12.1 or 12.2 on street tires at 119mph

I think he is only referring to the 1/4 mile. And that is because you'll never be able to shift a manual trans as fast as an auto could do it. So quicker shifts, plus a torque converter with the possibility of add a stall converter = win

You'll have some hiccups if you try this swap.

What trans? Stock or your advertised built one?

What kind of power can the built trans handle?

If times are your goal then definitely stick with auto. Not to mention there nice to drive off the track as well.(easy)

I don't know if the op is even racing but it seems to help put the speed and power of the vehicle in to better perspective when you refer to track et and mph. The car is just more fun when you dont have to shift every where you go. Maybe I am just getting old It's also a lot easier to text-n-drive with an auto, JK

Just learn to live with the auto, or by a car with a 5 speed manual.

All the suggestions in here seem on par with all the other threads that have asked this. I also agree it is not nearly worth the hassle to do a trans swap. Like kxrida said there are so many things that you would need to change out. You would probably end up spending as much on the swap as the car is worth

lol you could probably do a full Fe5 suspension swap, get a full SS T/C interior, repaint the car, AND turbo it with the money you'll spend getting a 5spd hahah!

but I <3 my 5spd and really dont ever want an auto

Thanks for all of the input. I think that will be the direction I go is to get a turbo. I am going to make a list of what all I would need and try to piece it together over time rather than dropping a chunk of change all at once. $200 spent 10-15 times over a couple months is easier to explain then $2-3000 all at once

As far as what I am going for, I am not sure it is about racing, although I wouldn't mind it, and I LOVE the sound of turbos. Who doesn't want a fast car?!

Not enough to make a significant difference. Maybe an extra 3% or so.

So true. My daily is auto and I HATE it with a passion. I have no interest in straight-line racing, so there is no "advantage" to have one.

Got outta my 5 spd into an auto, totally different car, but I am LOVING not having to shift. Auto FTW

PS, I can put my new car in manual mode and use the paddle shifters on the steering wheel if I want to hold gears or track race or whatever the case may be

Meh. To each their own. I prefer to row my own. I've never driven a slushbox then turned around driven the same car with a manual and said "Man, the manual gearbox really kills this car."

Exactly lol. Even with full bolt ons and a tune I find my auto 2.4 is wayy quicker now compared to stock. And the tranny is like night and day when it comes to shifting. Oh and once I get some money together next mod is the zzp supercharge or turbo kit.
