man... this is odd, maybe the people with cel's got it cuz of their intakes or some type of exhaust leak on the header/dp... im getting everything done by a performance shop any way and will get it all put on together..
maybe you are right, let us know whether or not you got a cel when its finished.

Thats true. I suppose the the inspection station would have a problem if you pulled up with a cel on.

yeah just a little tit. so if i tuned it out which at this point i havent looked into it and have no idea about but if i did tune it out would they still be able to see its tuned out once they hook it up to the computer. i mean if its gunna be a big deal i could just say the hell with the downpipe and just do the header and catback. is there anywhere i could a ss/sc downpipe with cat because that is 2.5 correct opposed to the 2.25 diameter (from what i have read) of the d/p on the 2.4 and that should work a little bit better than the one that i have stock.

I don't know what they look at when its hooked up to the computer. My last car didn't have a diagnostics port for them to plug the computer into and my cobalt doesn't have to be inspected for four years. As for the diameter of the ss/sc downpipe I think it is 2.5 you should check the classified section if thats what you want to do.

If you guys are worried about the downpipe throwing a CEL, there is a product that is supposed to eliminate the problem. It's made by Ark, and is basically an extension that goes on your O2 bung and puts the o2 sensor out of the direct flow path of the o2. I'm not sure how well this works. The downpipe i bought off another member has one on it, but i haven't had time to install it so i can't tell you. When i do have time to install my header and downpipe i will definitely let you guys know. In the meantime here is the link to an old GB thread that ark had a while back with this product https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...cel+eliminator

I've never seen a product like that, looks like an ebay type scam. But I could be wrong. I have seen O2 simulators that splice into the wiring harness of the O2 and trick the computer into thinking it's working. They're made by Casper Electronics. I haven't been able to find one made specifically for our cars though. I'm getting ready to install the CA header and DP and now I'm worried I'll have to find around the CEL as well. Which is just great...

Hey guys i just got my CA header and D/P with highflow cat installed last week. I was telling you guys about the CEL eliminator from Ark earlier in the thread and said that i would get back to you on whethor or not it worked. Well i just stopped by autozone and had them check my CEL codes and no new codes after the install. The only code was still the P0171 lean code from the intake that had been there already. So those of you who are getting codes from the D/P and those of you worried about installing a header and d/p because of the CEL code i recommend spending the extra $20 to get the CEL eliminator. Also from what i can see you only need to get one for the O2 sensor AFTER the cat. The pre-cat sensor isn't throwing any codes without a CEL eliminator. I hope that helps those of you with questions or worries about getting a CEL due to the d/p.

im waiting on my catless dp to come in, but im getting my performance shop to install it. he said he can put something on there that will keep me from getting any codes and he guarantees it. other wise id get the one with cat, but it costs like $50 more and restricts more.

the level of restriction from the highflow cat isn't that bad. The power difference is maybe 1-2 hp. I'd recommend getting the highflow cat to keep it legal and you don't have to worry about anything when it comes time to get your inspection done. Unless of course you know someone that will hook you up with inspection.

Cool, lucky you. Do you get it for free? or normal inspection price? I used to know a guy that did that for me when i had my old car. He started out charging me 40-50, then it keep going up every year. Eventually it got to $75 over 3 years ago before i sold the car and i just said screw it i'm going to keep it emissions legal from now on.
