LSJ Important Warning!

LSJ Important Warning!
If you own an LSJ, now is the time to check, and get in the habit of checking your intercooler pump. It has been my recent observation that A LOT of people with 2006 Cobalt SS/SCs are having intercooler pump failure. This is not unique to 2006, as the pump was the same for all years.
You will need to take off the resivoir cap while the car is running (be careful not to burn yourself). If your resivoir is empty, top it off and look. There should be a constant flow. If you don't see a flow, then you are screwed and need to replace it.
The reason this is SUPER important is that if this pump fails, regardless of your mods, you will destroy your motor. It will not take months, weeks, or days to destroy your motor, it can happen in one pull.
Check those pumps and stay cool!

mine went out in my last car and stayed out for almost a year before i realized. All it really does is turns these aftercooled 4 bangers into heat sucking 4cyls kinda like the S/C 3800 engine GM made...
Mine is out in this car as we speak, but as long as I stay off the throttle and granny shift I can keep the temps IAT2s down to 120-130ish. I did a quick sprint on the interstate the other day and they shot to 190*...I almost ****!!!
Ebay sells the same pump for about $90, so dont get screwed by the dealership that wants i believe $499 for the same pump...
OEM?? LOL the pump is a bosch and is the same pump used in Cobra mustangs and ford lightinings...
rated at I believe 6.3 GPM...there are better out there...
Lopsided Jester has a Jabsco i believe

I have been seeing these cars idle at 185* IAT2 without the pump running. That will melt your life away.
If it's broken, hitting it with a hammer won't hurt will it!

jack the car up, put it on stands, turn the key on so it should be running (if you have that enabled) if you dont hear that bich whining, hit it (not super hard) on both sides til it kicks on. worked for me

Believe it or not , I have seen in numerous cars use a cheap ass marine pump from walmart that flows 300 gph works well ( basically the same concept as a factory pump ) . Got the idea from the forums , one day my buddies factory vortech pump failed in his 96 Z when we were on a cruise . Stopped at all walmart swapped it out in the parking lot and its been problem free for 6 months now . cant comment personally on more long term life , but the pump was 40 bux ...if it lasted a even up to now it woulda been worth it .
Sourcing out another pump I wouldnt go over 200-300 gph , the SS system capacity is so small , anything more would likely cause higher temps . Im not sure what the stock pump is rated at .

Mine ran for over a "hard" year, and after I fixed the pump the car ran so much better...and I even had a 2.85 on it. That last car was a freak though; i drove thru standing water and had the TB and 1st O2 sensor changed and it STILL ran like a champ...I used to hang with my buddies with S2+2.8's after all that.
I need to go find my trusty hammer and

damn i have been preaching this forever, that damn pump cost me my first motor. there are aftermarket solutions as well. http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...ts1.php?id=425
the stock pump uses a magnet from the electric motor to the turbine, after a while there gets a build up of plastic shavings which cause the pump to stop functioning. shitty!

Yea thats what I was thinking cause when it went out, my car felt like a dog. Plus it was knocking my boost down to 12ish psi.
