SS/TC vs. Charger R/T
So, I was out and about today when I saw this really nice Charger R/T pull up next to me to get gas. I mean really nice, and I don't even like them. Long story short...... He wanted to see what "our little cars" have. I told him I'm not much into the street racing thing but I will do a 40 to 80 on the freeway. So we go and I pulled him so hard all 4 times, at least a cars worth at 80. I think all he had done was a intake, tune, and exhaust. I would like to see what I have up against a srt8 now. What do you guys think?

The 5.7L Chargers arent much to worry about, low 14 second cars on average, and probably not that great from rolls. The 6.1L Charger is a low 13 second car on average, but from a roll I think it would be a good race.

Actually, you know whats gay? Claiming to have a mod installed, then, two weeks later, mentioning that you will get that mod that next weekend And no, I didnt go looking for trash, I just went to see what you car is packing, which looks like you can maybe match a Neon SRT-4, powerwise. And found you claiming mods installed that you evidently still dont have.

So im keepin the balt til i can afford to buy a new camaro all at once so i dont have to make payments on it, just write one check and be done.
So these are the mods im Doing and that are in progress. List any mods u would suggest or think is a bad mod.
Im looking to get to 280-290whp off of nos
-Ported Blower Installed
-Ported TB Installed
i already have gm stg2, intake, full exhaust, h/e, sway, strut, rotors, and engine mount

I had an 02 6 speed 3.5 Maxima before my ss/tc. I managed to run a 14.3 at 98.5 with a 2.39 60ft in the Maxima...
With the max I ran 2 Charger R/T's and 3 Magnum R/T's all from rolls and I was able to barely beat all of them. I ran one SRT8 Magnum from a 40mph roll and got absolutely raped. The SRT is a completely different animal.

Not very quick? Pretty sure all the SRT8's have been known to get into the 12's or 13 flat stock at or near 110, shoot just reading I think it was road and track had the auto SRT8 Challenger run a 13.1 at 109.8 I think? Sounds like they are pretty slow, which would make the SS's snail like? Shoot, even the truck would beat ya'll.
Might want to get your info correct before jumping to such harsh and incorrect conclusions, all the SRT vehicles look sinister and make a cobalt SS look like a regular cobalt in comparison...

BTW, does the 1991 mean the year you were born?

Tell you what, you go buy a 4100lb car (which weight is average for its size, BTW) that can run a 12.88 @108, on pump gas, street tires, which is the fastest I've personally seen a stock one go, here at MIR, at the 2005 Mopar Eastern Classic, and tell me what it cost. Youve only got a few cars in that class. The CTS-V, the M5, the Mercedes E Class, an now the G8 GXP, which, btw, is about a dead heat in speed, and shocker, costs about the same.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...omparison_test
"The basic test numbers were impressive, but the Charger's agility on the Grattan road circuit was truly revelatory. Even though we experienced brake-fade problems during the full-tilt process, we were able to herd the bad-boy Dodge around the track in 1:32.65, just 0.1 second behind the CLS55 Benz and almost a full second quicker than the Cadillac STS-V."
There you go, read that. Up against cars costing 40K more, an SRT-8 held its own. Its a bargain against its real competitors. Its heavy because its a big car, carries five adults nicely, four in a lot of comfort, and has a gargantuan trunk. Big cars are heavy. And going fast costs, more as you get heavier.
What do you consider "very quick", anyway. Break it down to numbers. 0-60 in under 5 seconds? The 1/4 mile in under 13? Top speed of 173? Or just a certain number in a 40-80 sprint?
Oh, and BTW, I did miss the edit, my apologies, but for the record, sanding isnt porting.

Don't get me wrong, I love the way the srt-8's look. They simply look badass. And sure, the Cobalt may be labled a "chick car" but its still a nice chick car (the SS by the way), but by that, 90% of SS owners are Guys, mainly due to the fact that most women don't care about performance. No offence to the Base Coabalt owners, but I wouldn't drive one. The base balt has nothing about it, its just a car. As is any base model vehicle.
It doesn't cost much for an SS/TC to get into the 12's.......Maybe $1300 (Tune and full exhaust). When my car was completely stock (not even a K&N filter) it ran a 13.5 @ 104.......
I imagine it would cost quite a bit more to get a srt-8 running faster. A car that heavy needs more beef. Either way, with a cobalt SS, Its still a lot less to make it run in the 12's. Average cost of a new TC is between 24K and 21K, plus maybe 5K getting it into the low 12's. Thats still under 30K
Now a brand new Srt-8 goes for around 41K maybe maybe take a few.......
To me, the cobalt SS is a much better bang for your buck IMO......
I would definatly own and drive a Charger SRT-8, they are sexy cars, badass looking and have tons of room........

Of course, my SRT-4 cost me 20K brand new, and mods to give it the power to run twelves (on street tires) cost me under 5K, and thats using all Mopar stuff, which costs, but has factory reliability. Cutting 2 seconds off that stock 14 second time for 4.5K is a helluva deal. Much better bang for the buck, and you could do it using cheaper methods. you certainly cant make an SRT-8 2 seconds faster for that kind of scratch. A blower to get you mid 11s will set you back over 7K. I dont look down on the boosted fours, my very first car was a 1985 Shelby Charger, that was competitive with the Mustangs of the day. Sadly, only thing GM offered back then was the Citation X-11
Bang for the buck all depends on your "mission statement" Mine changed over time. Wife was not comfy, my knees were continuing a downhill slide to where using a clutch was getting to be painful experience, kids were growing, and were not happy with the noise levels. A three day family trip in the Neon was kinda cramped So, you need a bigger, more comfortable car, an auto, that will match a Mopar Stage 3 SRT-4 in power, handling, and braking? List is really short. Thank god SRT did the SRT-8, I certainly couldn't afford anything else that is this fast stock for under 60K.

you should win i raped a srt8 jeep yesterday by 3 cars from 45-90 and i was in 3rd the whole time and i think a srt8 challenger would put up the same fight..... so it would be a VERY good race for you
shouldn't it just be a good tune? like 300whp and 340wtq?

It will take me a while to find the time slip, that was a while back....
From a roll we can beat them easily, But the R/T put one hell of a fight.......I'm starting to think he had more done to it other than just the CAI, tune, and exhaust. I should have gotten way more than just one car on him.

The Challanger SRT8 is 4100. It is a shrortened coupe version of those cars. The Magnum, 300 and Charger are approx 300-400 lbs heavier so 4400-4500 lbs. Even at 380 whp you should be able to beat them or at least stay right next to them from a roll.
