This is what I like to call the SS Brake Light Mod, it adds like 10HP to your car... jk!

In all seriousness (<- Is that correct?), I wanted to do a Mod to my car that I had not seen or heard of yet. So I decided on doing the SS Brake Light MOD.

Since I only used 6 LED's you can see it if you look hard enough, but they won't be too bright. Rainy day or night time looks sweet!

I have thought about adding some more LED's, but not sure yet.

Should have bout real leds and not those. they will burn out so fast. I have leds if anyone is intrested. 5000+MCD and will not burn out. very cheep. 21 cents per led.

cool mod i will be adding leds to my tails and getting rid of stock bulb

All LED lights burn out eventually, they do not burn out as fast as a standard incandescent bulb, because they do not produce anywhere near the same amount of heat. If the LED exceeds 50 mA then they usually burn out sooner, (They may last a few months with continuous use) but it also depends on how the LED was engineered, Low-power LED's, and some high-power LED's with carefully engineered paths by which heat can be extracted from the semiconductor material, last much longer. However the LED's that you mention sound like a much better deal then the ones I purchased, and @ 21 cents per LED that's not bad. How much brighter would they be over the ones I purchased?

someone should make a kit w/ like all the LEDS and wires hooked up to them and also have the long wires too. make things so muck easier and it would be cheap to buy the materials. and sell them for a few bucks more to save peoples time. got that mkurley or kindredx ?? lol

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, I think I'm going to look into that.

This is not a bad idea, of course this would need longer wiring to reach the side brake lights to wire it to the turn signal wires, but I think it can be done.

You almost can't tell they are on. Like I said, I've been thinking about upping the LED's to 8 or so.

Well here is a lil better pic than the other i showed i think that 8-10 fills the best. Im wanting to do the outers soon too. The tails look very skyline like now haha! I didnt notice that you had those little covers on your tails i think you may want to add more to get around those? The thing that we had a problem with when i did mine was the nasty tar like adhesive they used. But after the foam came off an then put on after the wiring they work great an been on the car for 3 months or so and they work great still!!

There rated at 5000MCD+ for brightness. radioshack is i think 300mcd... quite a big difference lol

More LED's with some one on circuit and some on the other. Pack in as many LED's as you can, I say. Say you stuff 12 in there; wire up 6 with the tail and 6 to the brake circuits. This way in tail mode they are lighted; in brake mode they are lighted and at night when the tails are lighted the # doubles when the brake is applied. Just another idea!! EDIT: Also if you wire them to the side lights, then it should only have three wires (I hope). A ground wire, brake light wire and the tail light wire; the brake light wire is used for the turn signal (I hope lik in older cars/trucks). If you wire up to these circuits then the lights will flash with signals, light up with tail lights and light up with brake lights too!!

i would buy one if it did that and then I would get the impala 3rd light and the led blubs in the tails and have a full led rear end

Hey this is a great mod I would like to do this but I have a small question. What kind of wire would you need to wire the led's? I have some leds but not sure what type of wire to use. Could I just go and buy it at radio shack? Or does anyone here sell that kind of wire? Thanks

The LED's did not come pre-wired? I suppose you could pick up your wiring needs at radio shack. I am not sure what gauge the wiring is, but's nothing real thick, the LED's do not demand a lot of power. The ones I purchased were pre-wired with enough to connect them to the third brake light.
