ECU swap?
I have a 2.2L, and plan on supercharging after a bit. I was wondering if anyone forsees any problems swapping a 2.0ECU in place of the 2.2L. The reason I ask this, is that it seems it would be easier, and safer, to swap ecu's so that I can tune safely, w/o piggyback.
I would probably have to swap all sensors too since the 2.2 only reads bar1 right?
I have read that the 2.0L ECU does have the capabilities of controlling an auto transmission. Can anyone confirm?

Its not possible to swap. The computers dont read the same even if you "swapped all the sensors". If it were possible, it would have been done already. Your stuck with waiting for HPT or SCT, or going piggyback.

If you could explain a little more, that would be appreciated.

Sw4y is right, it's not possible. The SS SC ECU is tuned for 2.0L of displacement, throwing in an extra .2L would severely screw up your engine. GM has spent COUNTLESS hours tuning the 2.0L ECU for that specific engine. You're better off going with a custom ECU or a piggy back system.

What do you mean they don't read the same? They are computers designed to run off of a bunch of sensors, and use "yes" and "no" to change things. I know my ecu and the SS/sc ecu must be similar now, because for 05-06 ls they used a 16bit processor, and for 07 they switched to a 32 bit processor, the same power as an SS ecu.
If you could explain a little more, that would be appreciated.

The PCM isn't the only computer contained in the car. Without getting too far into it, swapping PCMs would basically cutoff communication to the Body Control Module, gauge clusters, etc. The computers talk to each other over a network using a specific protocol (language). The two PCMs use two different protocols, therefor it would not work.
There are other problems as well, such as the crank sensors not being compatible and the ignition systems being different.

You would be gaining the downsides of running a standalone on an electronic throttle car along with the limits of a stock PCM.
If you can handle getting around the comforts of having a BCM/airbag computer/power steering/etc. then just go straight standalone imo.

now now guys, your giving him all false info....
instead of saying: "its not possible" you should be saying: "your wallets not deep enough"...
ANYTHING can be done with enough money and time (and alot of modification).
However, I think an ECU swap would prove to be stupid. you'd have to swap out everything....new wiring, new sensors, new ecu, new gauges, new....everything.
however, if you dont mind losing ALOT of convinience items, (DIC, Radio, Power Locks, etc) then you can disable everything, and do the swap.....but nothing will work...at all.not even your engine.
