Is yours the 2.0 SC? If so you already have forged pistons, rods, and crank. Even if you have a 2.4 you still have forged rods and pistons! And those pistons are good for around the 400hp mark. I'd say get the rods polished and ballanced, have the crank spin ballanced, knife edged, chamfered, cross drilled, and relief cut. That crack and the rods will be good for at least 600hp! As for pistons if your dead set on new ones a nice hyperutectic set will do nicely and with out the possible knocking of forged pistons. Now I'd also run a set of total seal rings so you squeeze ever pony out of it you can! Keep your ballance rods as the car will be street driven and I'm sure you want it to last right? RIGHT! Port and polish the runners on the head, bigger valves with a 3 angle valve job. See if you can find titanium valve keepers and locks and maybe valve springs too. Remember get rid of any un sprung weight so it can rev like a ****! I'd run a nice set of stage 1 but no more then stage 2 cams. Then port the intake to match the gasket rubber band things closely and also port match the header flange to the gasket.
I think thats all but if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
Hope this helps.

Ever heard of Jasper Engines and Transmissions? You can have them build it for you custom ANY way you want it! They build NASCAR engines so I'm sure they can handle a little 4 banger. That and I had them build my over 600hp 427 Pontiac big block and they did an AWESOME job!

Jasper In. They have an exchange service thru shops all over! You'll have to check around to see if they're on the left coast. I worked for them when they did my big block or I NEVER would have been able to afford it. It ran me right around $10,000 but if I wasn't an employee it would have been over $40,000! I had TONES of machine work and an all titanuim valvetrain and the rotating ass was done at the NASCAR shop in the Carolinas and ballanced to 15,000 RPM!!! Not that it ever saw it tho. I had all 8 cylinders bored out stupid big and all 8 sleeved and then the sleeves bored to except 455 pistons and kept the 400 crank and rods and TA DA! That yeilds about a 427 ci engine. Man would that thing scream! All roller valve train (lifters and rockers) with titanium keepers, locks, and springs.
I miss that car

yah i was looking at the mild build, but i don't like the rods they use. oh and the "please allow 1 to 2 months for your engine to be built". thats the real reason i won't go with them. i would love the wild build though, just don't have the time or money, my car is a daily driver.

What don't you like about the Pauter rods that JBP uses??
The 1 -2 months is because of some ******** project taking up most of JBP's time right now

all in all i figure i could toss them a few more bucks to upgrade to the rods i want, but the time factor still has me.

Likely the same guy who will rep you when the system lets him
They are an I beam rod. As well they now have access to H beam rods and they are all 4340 .
After looking at JBP's site I could be wrong on that sportsman rod but it is easy enough to get them to use the better rods.

I've checked into the engine prices JBP offers and that is one thing they are competitive with, they are very competitive with the prices considering what it is you're getting.
