Seems like a great option for someone to look into. Just chuck the black box tuning and use HP Tuners for the 2.4 SS.!!
Turbo is a little small but it looks like this dyno was putting out 187whp/215 ftlbs.
20psi of boost is right at the edge of the map at 7000 rpms on a designated 2.9L motor so anything under that should be coolio. So it might be a decent set-up on a smaller 2.4 at more boost and rpms.
Price is not great either but perhaps a group buy could be generated deducting some $$ for no tuning box.

There is something very wrong with the look of that kit. First of all, the 04 Ions used L61 engines with E16 computers, so they have the same tuning problem the Cobalts currently have. Second, 186HP? That is VERY weak. You're looking at a non-intercooled set-up for over 3 grand? Overpriced junk. Probably just has a shitty FMU with no ignition control. Ask the redline forum guys about this, they probably know it at I bet they don't have nice things to say about it.

Hmm. It is intercooled I don't know where it says its non-intercooled and you can see the intercooler and piping as part of the kit. Granted its probably only pushing 5-8psi because of the tuning limitations on timing (therefore only 187 whp) but the base dyno was barely 102 so its probably a Mustang dyno and therefore decent gains even with low boost.
The PARTS if sold individualy (ie., manifold and oil water lines) may be a good place to start for us 2.4s that can use HP Tuners so we could piece together a custom kit with a cast iron mitsubishi flanged manifold.
Also, I'd be careful about libel in an open forum without having concrete knowledge. We don't need to get this website in any hot water (lawyerly advice).

More info on the website "about us" section. Seems they use Bosh pumps and steel lines with excellent fittings for heat exchangers. The ex-manifold is a cast piece and they are getting me a list of prices for individual parts. THANK YOU. But please read the whole post. I never said anything about using the turbo. Just the manifold, heat shields and parts.

To me it sounds like you just want to do a custom turbo setup. Even if you were to just buy the piping and intercooler, with a different turbo, the location of the piping might be slightly different depending on what you're trying to accomplish. Also, if you're going for a bigger turbo, are you staying with an internal wastegate? If not, that manifold won't do you any good since the turbo is internally gated and the manifold doesn't have an external wastegate flange.
I have to agree with Halfcent, the amount of power, granted with a small turbo, isn't impressive really. There are people who haven't gained much more power with a better setup or even custom setup with a decent fuel management system.
Untill there is some type of concrete fuel management system or you go standalone, I wouldn't look into boosting...you could spend $7000 on a perfect turbo setup but without a proper fuel management system, it's garbage. That's my opinion though...

True, you'll never extract the power you want until you've first upgraded your fuel system to handle the power. Fuel components are always my first buy..

Well at this point everyone should know about HP tuners support for the 2.4. A simple injector upgrade is all that is needed and a walbro if you really are ****. I am not sure where I promoted myself as a hack but I have owned a few turbo cars and installed too many turbo kits and turbos to count in my 22 years of tinkering. I mean of course you upgrade the fuel system and clutch.
This turbo kit manifold, heat shields and other parts can easily be tweaked to support just about any set-up you want to run (mitsu flange) it just takes getting a few couplings and bends to line things up, its not rocket science and considering a do it yourself turbo kit..it should eliminate a few (parts hunting) steps.
And as far as power goes, these are STREET cars so I would be very hesitant about blowing more than a reasonable degree of boost. Despite what everyone keeps yacking about power output etc etc., I doubt VERY seriously anyone is going to go shoving 20psi of boost in a 2.4 liter engine on an open diff and drive it on the street. I mean really these are daily street driven Cobalts NOT trailer queen time attack Porsches so why is everyone STILL chest thumping about ultimate power output.
That is why I think the best option is an internally gated set-up at reasonable boost 8-10psi which doesn't need a road graded sized turbo....it also makes it much simpler to fab up without doing a bypass valve re-circ into the intake tract.

George, if you're serious about looking for a turbo build on your setup, you need to get your ass outta the house and have a few beers and a BS session with us. Jeff from pittspeed.com and 1st Try does awesome exhaust work and custom turbo intake/charge piping. Dan, Dan, and I are working on the 2.4 tuning and will be using HPtuners along with a few others tricks thrown in. It will be a lot more cost effective doing it this way rather than buying a bunch of unneeded parts.

Al well technically I haven't been in the "house". My little girl was at Children's for 2 weeks and we are recovering from her last round of chemo. Its been a long hard two years but God has blessed us and we got through it...my wife and I are really tired but enough poor me sauce...we are almmost back to a "normal" life.
I'll be out and can help with turbo set ups. I was merely posting this as a source for parts for people who ar elooking to piece together a kit. I'd love to know if Garrett would sell these pieces individually, specifically the oil lines, manifold, and downpipe. Probably T25 flanges though.
