valvetrain noise with bates springs
fired up the freshly rebuilt turbo 2.2l tonight, all went well aside from one issue, valvetrain noise. here is the setup
-bates 94lb spring kit (springs, retainers and seats)
-stainless valves
-level zero tri-flow cams
-gm adjustable cam gears
-oem lash adjusters
what i have is exactly the same sound you get from a stuck lifter in a pushrod engine, however it sounds like all the valves. i do have plenty of oil pressure, and lots of oil in the head. now as we ran it to seat the rings the noise was getting quieter, however its still concerning me. im not sure if the lash adjusters still have air in them or if the springs are to heavy for lash adjuster. another thought is that the level zero cams are regrinds, the base circle would be smaller, possibly causing lash when the valves are closed. now i did not shim the lash adjusters, the thought never crossed my mind.
any thoughts, comments or opinions??? any experiance with the 94lb springs???
