they do look rather large lol...not sure what I'm gonna do when I do my retro. CCFL looks better than LED imo. People just charge way too much for colored CCFL halos.

DSmastery 05-07-2010 01:12 PM

good video commentary haha

its a cobalt whatever hahaha

Gestapo007 05-07-2010 01:23 PM

^

id take CCFL's I just hate the boxes and shit they need, i guess there some sort of transformer of some sort i dunno but there annoying looking. Orange LED halo's would make me happy

iboost 05-07-2010 01:57 PM

Orange LED halos : http://shop.3bspecialties.com/Angel-...D.qscstrfrnt05

Gestapo007 05-07-2010 04:14 PM

the only ones on that site that are available in orange are 80MM. I dont even know what size i need or if thats the right size. But i believe there are 2 different size halo's in the assembly.

Heres something cool id figured I should post, I went out and spent $150 on 3M 3stage buffing compounds and pads yesterday for my $60 harbor freight buffer. Iv buffed before using wool pads but never foam since i hear they generate alot more heat and cut faster so you have to be real careful, well i got all foam pads yesterday and practiced on a Spraypainted black low-pro spoiler I have, i spray painted it awhile ago, and tried the turtle wax rubbing and polishing compound to get it to look right, then waxed it and could never get it to look shiney, thus the pics. Well heres the before and after pics: By the way this was a REAL quick buff too.

That shit looks 10x better, and thats just like 2 minutes of buffing, no wax or anything, just some 3m rubbing compound on a white foam pad and machine polish on a black pad

2008G5GT 05-07-2010 04:17 PM

Damn good job.

If you get serious about detailing it, look into a Porter-Cable 7424XP.

Swirl free paint is the best kind of paint.

Sweetsandman 05-07-2010 04:19 PM

Nice! I plan on using a random orbital 10" buffer on my car tonight for the meet tomorrow. So you would recommend foam pads??

hatrickstu 05-07-2010 04:20 PM

car is gorgeous, but holy cow lose that fart can. the paint is AWESOME, but that just detracts terribly

i would definitly recommend the foam pads, just keep it moving and occasionaly i take my hand and feel where i just buffed to see how warm the surface is to make sure i am doing it right. If its not warm at all i assume i need to go over it some more, if its hot i was there too long. thats how i do it at least lol

sorry, cars dirty but wanted to get pics b4 sun goes down and i pull it in the garage to buff it with machine polish

depends on what your looking to do. if you are just looking to polish then yea use foam just keep moving like he said. wool pads are meant more for cutting and do it alot faster than foam. just make sure you use enough but not to much compound. not enough makes it get hotter faster, and to much can possibly swirl it.

love it man. that wing just works. but i still dont think i like those things on the roof they just dont look right.

krizlx 05-07-2010 07:18 PM

I say you make a how-to on the eyelids!!

ls1fbody 05-07-2010 07:19 PM

I've been exactly where those pictures were taken.

Used to spend all my weekends in Kure/Carolina Beach when i was stationed at Ft. Bragg.

Gestapo007 05-07-2010 09:49 PM

Ill make a quick how-to right now:

Step 1: Print out a picture of my car
Step 2: take this picture, get into your cobalt and drive to your nearest vinyl shop
Step 3: Show him the picture and say "Hi, can you please do this to my cobalt headlights?"
*Wait about 20 minutes or so*
Step 4: Hand him the money he asks for, prices range. I got the vinyl down my hood and the eyelid with the yellow pinstripe for $15 a side.
Step 5: Enjoy your new eyelid :)

Or you can paint it on or whatever, but you better make sure you take your time and get them even on both sides. I had the vinyl guy lay it on, then later when i painted it i just outlined the vinyl in pinstripe tape so i knew exactly where they were and i knew they were even already

soooo come back and lets do a photoshuit ya queer :)

Its beautiful here, but I know Cali is too

holy shit i love this buffing shit I got. I wetsanded some trash out of my hood with 2,000 grit on a sanding block and then buffed it back to a gloss, but my fathers corvette is pretty fucked up. pics:

Shit looks 1,000x better! I like that, makes ya feel good. I got tired and gave up for tonight after half of the vette hood and my hood. ill give it more tommorow since theres a little cruise-in tommorow night. :)

2008G5GT 05-07-2010 09:53 PM

Damn Kevin. That looks fucking great!

Just make sure you're NOT micromarring. (Holograms)

If you stay with the rotary, it's a good idea to pick up a paint thickness meter.

i know what your talking about, the rubbing compound leaves holograms, thats how my car looked this morning since i never went over it with polish. But the 3M Machine polish removes them and then I have an ultrafine machine polish to remove anythign left over. The vette was actually hit with the machine polish and the ultrafine machine polish so i guess thats 2 passes. Theres really no deep scratches that need rubbing compound, on my car however I need it to remove any dry spots and 2,000 grit scratches from removing trash. But its pretty simple and satisfying. Expensive for those pastes though!

For removing post bodywork defects, rotary all the way...

But for removing normal swirls/scratches etc, a PC7424 is A LOT safer.

But hey, if you've found something that you're comfortable with, and it works, keep doing it.

Everyone has their own little techniques when it come to polishing, and I have only used a PC and the Meg's Compunds.

Gestapo007 05-07-2010 10:06 PM

and iv only used a rotary lol. thats what we use at the shop so thats what i bought I like it though. works pretty sweet

Seems to.

Which reminds me, I need to wetsand/polish out the sanding marks that Bob King left in my Driver's side door.

Boosted_Cobalt09 05-08-2010 01:53 AM

in all honesty if you try using a meguiars g110 or porter cable 7424xp to do correction its a waste. you will be sitting there forever even if you finish it 3000 lol. stick with a rotary for getting the major defects out and wetsanding scratches and then switch to the dual action for all the polishing. i have a few different systems i use depending on the type of job or the type of car
