dude chop the 3 inches below the gauges and make it more flush with the dash, even if u have to re-angle where the gauges will lie

alright, cut that in half, throw half away and then bust the other half into tiny little pieces... After that you should be left with something a little better than what you have now.. First one much better imo, but I think you will find some way of mounting them that will blow both ideas away.

Wow, lots of love. I shall not be deterred by your hate! Anyway...

Couple things to remember, its an unpainted block of styrofoam, it's going to look like right crap at the moment. It's got 4 gauges in it, so it going to be larger then what you might be used to seeing. It's addressing a specific problem with clearance at the moment, so I'm working on it.

The only way to make it slimer would be to angle the gauge faces down. I don't want to do that. I'm going to make a couple more. I'll try one tomorrow that doesnt have a brow line. That will help take some height off the top. Plus I just noticed that none of the pods I have ever seen actually have a brow, which may be why it looks odd.

I kinda like the look of the brow, but give it a try without if you want.

It will block vision... It's a horrible idea.

Here is another one that isn't RICERONI.

It doesn't, actually. That was one of the criteria for making it was that it could not interfere with line of sight.

As for your picture, is that a Cobalt bezel or a different car? I thought about doing something like that but it didn't look there was a enough room for it in the corners.

The fourth try...

Ok, I have cut off the brow and about an inch of width. The only other place I can remove more material is from the length, but that isn't the problem of course. The height is what's making it look weird, but that's as short as I can make it and keep my clearance.

I have zero line of sight loss, no interference with any part of the interior, and it's as small as it can get and still hold 4 gauges. Actually having 4 instead of 3 probably helps with the look by stretching its width out a little bit.

Here's the driver view:

An outside view:

I'm going to go ahead and cover this one with fiberglass and see how it comes out.

now, excuse the poor drawing skills...but this is my idea and italstalnprd is making it for me. what do u guys think? the gray part is gonna be same color and texture as the stock column just wanted to show the breakup of it... 2 2 1/16 gauges at the sides and 1 shift light in the center (yellow dot)

How would it block vision? Unless he is like 4'10 and even with the dash. The only thing that would block is his window defrost vents.

In my camaro that would have blocked vision. Just from the way you sit in the car. But in the cobalt its a non issue.(besides the fact that it is ugly)

You could put them where the center vents are... unless you use the heater or a/c a lot.

That doesn't look too bad. It's just too bad you can't blend them into the dash more.

I am liking this alot but wish you could get your head around the idea to have the guages out more from the flat face of the pod like a trim ring (new idea here) and then the guage would not requires as much depth. But really great work. I following this one. dont let us discourage you at all. I am impressed with how you have progressed and handle everyones input.

I'm thinking, why not yank the vents and install gauges there? I think it would look alot better....maybe even leave some venting around the gauges? Otherwise, I like your first attept much better.....

Your haveing issues with the height for allowing the gauges to fit? are the gauges in little pods? If they are can you take them out and make it easier to deal with the height? I know it's easier to make space for a bunch of wires then it is for a plastic pod.....

just an idea.
