Hardwiring Radar Detector to Sunroof Switch

Ok. I have been looking all over the board to find a post about how to hard wire my Valentine 1 into my sunroof switch. I did this on my last car but. I haven't tried to pull the switch or anything out yet. Has anyone done this?? I don't really want to run a wire down my pillars and all. Or what is the best way to access the wires up there??

your better off tapping into the power wire for the boost gauge, as it's also a switched power. That's how my radar is wired in and there is nothing wrong with it.....then you can put the V1 to the left of the rear view mirror......works great

We used a voltmeter on the connections to the back of the gauge to find which was the 12volt switched. I can't recall at the moment which wire it was, but it didn't take long to get it all set up. Once you do all that, just run the extra wire up the a-pillar and just leave enough to run it across the top of the winshield(under the headliner) and out by the rear view.

It is pretty easy to do, you just need to find a ground that is the hardest part. I just used the bolt that holds the AIR Bag in, that is a 10mm, backed it out a little bit and slid the connector in there and tightened it back up. My hardwire kit had a fork looking connector on it for the ground. And the power wire I just tapped into the pink wire behind the gauges. And tucked everything into the dash and reassembled. I will do a huge write up on this with pictures.

I take it you used the gauge for the power lead?? A how to would be pretty nice for the rest of the community. I hated having my radar detector cord coming from the cigarette lighter thing. It always got in the way. Congrats on gettin it done!

Why don't you just hook it up to one of the power wires for the mirror. That is what i would do unless you weren't placing the detector in the middle of the window.

Update

Reason I have not posted a how to is because for some reason I am having issues with the radar detector. The power keeps going on and off. Sometimes I will have power and sometimes I won't I don't know what is going on. I don't think there is enough power to power up the Valentine One. Anyone have any suggestions????

FYI dont tap into the fog light power, I did that because someone else said it was the way to go in another thread and in less then a day I had a broken radar detector. I ended up tapping into my turn on wire for my deck

I haven't checked it yet, but it will work one day, then not. So, i don't know. I thought it was like a power problem. I am going to stick a volt meter on and see what is going on.

It's been awhile but...bump. I'm trying to hardwire my Passport 8500 and don't know how to get to the fuse box...How did everyone else get to the fusebox near the passenger seat?? I have tried searching.

^^^^ Just googled it...Found it. Thanks anyway.
