well it arrived today and it is bigger than I thought it would be. I attached some photos to show how big it really is. will be getting it programmed and the key cut at the end of the week.

The "chip" in the key is a transponder that tells your car that the key being used is right and not cut to steal your car which can be done by vin. They have to be programmed to your car's coding.
Programming procedure for our cars keys:
1) start car with programmed/working key.
2) wait for all your check lights to go out on your cluster
3) turn car off and immediately (within 3 or so seconds) start car with 2nd "new key"
4) wait for all lights to go out on cluster again
5) wait 30 seconds for ignition module to "reboot"
6) start key with "NEW KEY" to make sure it worked.
I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY HARM/OR MISS-INSTALLATION YOU DO TO YOUR CAR.
This is how I learned my spares and how I was taught to learn our GM transponder keys.

I am thinking of doing this. I was really hoping to get a 4-button 2012 Chevy Equinox key because it appears to be of better quality than the ikeyless key fob, but the dealership the Equinox key wouldn't fit due to the size of the metal key itself.
Any updates on how it's working?

The equinox is a completely different style fob and key. It's reminiscent of a BMW key. It has a bar with the pattern cut into the side of the key instead of on the edges. Even if you could get the key part to work, good luck getting it programmed. It's not the same transponder type and is actually a high tech computer in and of itself.

the key fob they gave me worked but they were unable to cut the key. I have to detach the key from the fob for them to cut it. will let you know when I get that cut if it works.
