I think im gonna retrofit a set of FX-r's into my Gen 3's. Seems pretty straight forward. Wouldnt need a shroud since the trim inside the light is one. just unmount the gen 3, mount up new one. wire it up and go

everyone retrofitting gen 4's now? damn i gotta get my gen 3's done bu tthere a nightmare! And how come after u retrofit a gen 4 the right light is STILL brighter than the left one

I moved the projector the gen4s come with to the high beam location, and removed the cutoff shield in the process. I replaced the low beam with Morimoto Minis and plan to wire up my harness so that all four lights are on for highs while the Morimoto handles the lows.

Mounting my Morimotos while retaining the aiming ability was easier than I thought. I just made some small brackets to attach to the "stock" mounting posts. Worked really well.

Some projectors are just brighter than others. As a rule of thumb yuou should put the brighter one on the driver's side. I didn't realize it was brighter though and it was too late. That bulb was also broken in more. I switched the bulbs and they're more even now. It's kinda deceiving though because the upper step overlaps with the right beam making it seem brighter. If I covered one up you would see that they're pretty close.

I had that problem with 4th gen's too and had to move the shroud/high beam. What I would do is make a mounting plate for the mini that puts it in the correct position and mounts it in the stock location. Then I'd modify the back of the housing as necessary. Not sure exactly what you're working with but most likely you have to open the hole(rear) more since the projector is being moved up. I'd then put 3"pvc around it and epoxy(the pvc) to the housing and fill in the gap that is left below with plexiglass or something. Then use a pcv cap to seal it up. Voila!
