out of curiousity, Why would my low beams have magically stopped working If I switch to high beams they work fine, however when I switch back to low beams they stay on low for about half a second then shut off completely.

Yeah... go with H1 variant of the kit. It fits just fine in our headlights, H1 bulbs are cheaper to replace, and H1 version has slightly better light output.

The only reason to go with D2S version would be if you had shorter/shallower headlight and H1 wouldn't fit back there...

There really isn't much difference between h1 bulbs and the ds2 from an output stand point, less options for replacement but the h1 are fine for a retrofit requires mini mods to the cobalt headlight

Thanks,

I'm searching but cannot find a thread started by padlock with a how to for a retrofit. Lots of for sale ads and need help threads.

Do you have a link?

Thanks I'll look, plus I found another. Is it a bad idea to simply buy projector headlights such as DEPO's

Lights & Bulbs - DEPO Projector Headlights (Chrome or Black) 05-10 Cobalt

And drop some HID's in the projectors? I don't want to melt the housing, but it seems like others have done it without claiming any negatives. And the cost is far more pleasing of course

What I mean is those headlights I linked already have projectors in them. I looked them up here on cobaltss and some people have simply put HID bulbs in them and say they are fine. I am wondering if this is a valid option

It can be done, but it's not a retrofit. Personally I don't care for the depo look compared to the retrofit

Frankly, I don't like the looks over an OEM retrofit either. But I was going to get a set of black OEM style headlights anyway, the the cost difference is pretty huge here if the performance is similar. If it's just a bad idea though I wouldn't do it (i.e. melting/cracking projector due to heat, bad cut offs).

But a pair of decent bulbs and ballasts for an H7 is just plain cheap, with relay.

Edit: ugh looks like retrofit is the way to go

you'll be much happier with retrofitting your factory headlights. light output is way better.

I just finished up my headlight retrofits a couple of weeks ago and I decided to finally get some pics up. It's a style that has been done many times on the forums when searching through this thread but when I saw it I loved it.

These are FXR-3.0, Morimoto 4300k bulbs, Morimoto 3-five ballasts and gatling gun shrouds.

I was testing the led strips in this picture.

In this pic I don't believe the lights were on but the flash from my camera almost made them look like they were lit up.

Another with flash off.

All lit-up..

Daytime pic.

I need to get some better pictures but the weather around here has not cooperated with getting another wash and a photo shoot.

EDIT - Oh and no I don't have a bulb in the side marker lamp yet. If you look in the first picture you can clearly see that if I were to put a bulb in there for it then you would be able to see it around the projector so I left it out for now till I can come up with a better plan for illuminating those. I do want to get that done in the future though because they have my BiXenon stickers on them and it want that to show.

Could you guys that use FXR, EVO's etc. post pictures of how you mounted them instead of just finished pictures that'd be great. I have a pair of RX350's I need to build but are un-sure of a good mounting method as theres really no holes to put bolts through.

This is how I did my EvoX-Rs. Used screws and nuts and washers and JBed them in place. I also tacked in some JB Weld on the sides. Then filled it all in with GE Silicone II. I did have to break apart the driver's side and redo it because the aiming was WAY off. So it's always best to mark the cutoff beam of your halogens on a wall first, then aim your projectors to match.

I would show pictures of my mounting method but I work at a sheet metal and machine shop so I made my own custom brackets that used the factory aiming ball cups and also allowed for rotational adjustment. Here is a thread I did on hidplanet for my previous vehicle using some custom made brackets. My and my father-in-law designed them in solid works and then I had them cut out on a waterjet machine. The design for the cobalt was alot different but you still get the idea.
