SS/SC Spoiler removel mpg increase?
#27
the car gets better gas mileage after a while too.. when i first got my 2.2, and filled the tank, the fual range on the DIC would say about 220... today when i filled, it said 368 and after driving about 45 miles it was at 362

how could our spoilers do anything? mine is flapping at 120 like CRAZY!!!! if we were to brace it i believe that it would be highly effective, due to its design and shape. i also hate how when i close the trunk that thing shakes frantically, and everyones like wow what a peice, nice spoiler. i am gunna "attempt" lol to make a peice of aluminum that goes in that little arc under the wing, and also strengthen the trunk lid, which is where i believe the problem is coming from.

Ahh this thread makes me laugh.
If our spoiler does anything, it will seriously put a small amount of downforce in the rear. If that hurts our MPG... Who knows.

I took the spoiler off, and I see no handling difference at all at high speeds. It was just a cheap plastic floppy spoiler creating drag. As for gas mileage, I tool it off so early that I really didn't notice a difference in gas milage.

Unless we don't want an SS wing on our base models, either.
To be honest, I know a wing isn't a good idea from a physics standpoint but it doesn't stop me wanting one. In carbon, please. With aluminum hardware, powdercoated Summit White.

Anyone who thinks that that floppy plastic POS does anything for you is VERY confused. IF it was actually stiff enough to hold its shape, then MAYBE... but I still doubt it. Nothing like taking weight off of the drive wheels too :S

This thread is very amusing to me. All you guys have to to do is look at other examples to see reasons.
I assure ALL of you, the wing is purely cosmetic. If it does anything at all for downforce or aerodynamics, is an imeasurably small amount and is purely a byproduct.
You want proof? I think that GM knows that the Corvette is a much faster car, yet even the king of the hill - the Z06 - has no high-rise spoiler.
Now tell me how many BMWs and Mercedes - cars built for the speeds of the Autobahn - have high-rise spoilers instead of nice low ones that lay flat with trunk, if anything.
Tell me why an Enzo Ferrari has no high-rise spoiler?
I can...because on a street car, they don't do ****.
