I have been thinking about that lately. When ever I punch it I hear a leak and just can't seem to locate it. Thought it might be my header but alls good on the exhaust side. So I gotta look at the intake side.

Boost leak test it and see if it leaks there. Take a larger vac line or small heater hose and hold one end to your ear and poke around with the other end while the system is pressurized.

gonna be honest mine didnt seem to leak but it was. i lost like 2lbs of boost on the guage. that doesnt seem to be much however it made a world of difference. it didnt blow out the gasket or anything like that. everything appeared to be normal as far as it was concerned. as for my symptoms, i wasnt building boost as i should, it literally felt like my clutch was slipping. i actually thought at one point in time i needed a new tranny. it took like 3 seconds to get the boost to hit. i had a massive misfire issue at the time.
now after i have removed the spacer, keeping in mind i have done nothing else to remedy any other isssues. i have gained the 2lbs back, i build boost as i should, i dont need a clutch or tranny, and my misfires are no where near as bad as it appeared. also as a side note, the velocity of the air moving in and out is by far better then it ever has been. the only draw back is i have gone up in iat2 by 10 degrees. i can easily gain the temps with removing my lower screen.
i just figured it may be the cause of your knock issue. as i think you have tried everything else to resolve it but it has never been resolved.

I definitely wasn't lacking boost or power. Doesn't matter anymore anyways cause it's turbo time.
Mike is running less timing than a stock cobalt. We kept pulling and pulling timing with no difference in knock. It isn't the tune

Just throwing this up for as a heads up.
I will be putting my 3" turbo XS GT exhaust up for sale soon. Feel free to pm me. I'm getting new hardware for it. Going back to stock. Or partly stock for now any way...
It has a bout 10 k on it and still looks great. Full stainless and sound very nice.
I think I got a video somewhere
