I dont know one cobalt owner that doesn't want to get rid of thier car now. I like my car. But it was fun for a while but it is falling apart and nothing is really working right. Then again I was messed around with everything...but the radio (and that doesnt work). Its time to upgrade for moi. So in the next couple months Im going to be parting my car out so if your interested in some parts. Let me know.

seriously? i liked the looks of the older accords a little more then the new ones...
and all your basing it off of is looks, the cobalt will run 5 years (being droped in 10 or 12) which is WAY shorter then its predisecior (SP). the LNF is more for the motor and not looks.

i work with cars all day and most of my life. looks are the first thing i see. motor is second.i am very pleased with my sc... as i was with my 2.4 . but the turbo just doesnt do anything for me.kenny's on the other hand...............made me wet ! lol
if anythign ... i would say to go that route that kenny went. gm 's version dissapoints me and if there basing the car on the motors release.....why bring this version of the lnf out and have it pretty much maxed out from factory? its a cash grab for the people that are only stuck on the hype of the turbo kick. cobalt version does not have any further potential taht i can see....apparently you cant even swap out the turbo for a bigger one....and when you can , at what cost and what gains and what else are you going to have to do in order to make a bigger turbo work better ?

I don't want to get rid of my car. It might not be the fastest thing on the road but it beats off most losers and I love the look of it.
So what will you be buying next?

they had som nuch ******* potential to do great things with this car..........and failed!
it looks like every other one ,ooh wait ,they put some different wheels on it, oooh and , changed the color of the seats,oh and a new grille , ooooh and ....no it still looks lilke the other 4 years of this car and all versions of it ! why not do something more to it.......make it stand out way passed the sc's?
**** they made em last year ! the 09 turbo balt is a joke ! ******* gm. im all for people wanting one and to each there own.....but i personally would like them to of been distinct among all the rest of them...thats where gm failed in the production of this car imo

I completely agree with the main subject (or at least how I read it..) "Why would GM slap in a new Turbo engine, into an aging and outdated platform, instead of create something new and refreshed all around?" <-- that's what I gathered out of your post, so forgive me if I'm mistaken.
The short and simple answer is... they want to make money. Realistically, for the enthusiast such as you, myself and everyone else on this board, we would obviously have rathered they build a new Cobalt from the ground up. But, looking into the options that GM had at the time, they really were stuck between a rock and a hardplace.
So, this is where they stood.... The US Government came out with new regulations and mandates for emitions standards for the 2008 production year. The existing 2.0L LSJ motor did not meet those required standards, and they were forced to stop production on the engine.
So.. what does GM do?
On the one hand, they have this fantastic peace of machinery, which not only is loved by it's enthusiast following, it is also selling extremely well on the general market. But.. they are unable to continue production due to these new emitions standards.
On the other hand, they have, most certainly, in the background.. plans to create a new, refreshed, completely redesigned Cobalt. On a new platform, based on the 'GM Global Platform' standard they are rolling out to all GM brands around the world by 2013.
So.. again, what does GM do?
1. Do they stop production of the Cobalt SS entirely until they are ready to roll out the new Cobalt, based on the new Platform?
2. Do they try to speed up production and cut corners to get the new platform under way? (not possible.. Contracts to build the existing Delta platform were signed until the end of 2009)
3. Do they take an engine which is already being produced, and through very little production and R&D cost, migrate it over to this existing, proven, ready to go platform for a year or two?
Quite honestly.. the logical choice for me is obviously number 3. Taking it from a Business perspective, they are in it to make money. And that is, at heart, regardless of what anyone else chooses to beleive, all they really care about.
That being said... I think it is in all of our best interest to wait and see how things pan out come 2010. At the current point, it appears as though we may see a fully rebuilt, and refreshed Cobalt SS hit the streets for the 2010 production year.
....Sorry for the story book.

JP lazy as ****. I read all that. not bad read. and looking forward to 2010. if they build a rWD or AWD turboed unit (which I dont expect but look at SAAB sedan) then I may consider it. but it has to be reasonable to build up.
I am already thinking it will be a **** car so will stick with crotch rocket. will do what I want to do.

Well it's all good.. I still love my car. And nothing turns heads more than the whine of the Intake and Supercharger. It's priceless. Last week I was going for a slurpee with my gf's 8 year old brother and I revved the engine for these girls his age and they jumped and started giggling and then waved lol.
Wes: The Pro-Kit only lowers the rear by .5, but it evens out the car nicely. And I can't find anywhere that says but I'm sure the springs would be much stiffer also? (Anybody know). Anyways, I had totally forgotten about the Pro-Kit but now that you mentioned it again it seems like the better idea than sportlines for my specific case.
Edit.. Did some searching. turns out Eibach even has a "Drag-Kit" line specifically to deal with weight transfer but they don't have an application for the cobalts
Oh and Andrew.. I forgot to give you the CD obviously I'll keep it in my car for next time.

Holy, kinda surprised by what everyone thinks about there car after owning it for a few years! I'm 21 tomorrow and have owned i think 6-7 cars, the SRT-4 is the only one i'm keeping. Hell i've barely modded it since i bought it and everytime the turbo spools i absolutely love it!
Although i'm not sure what i'm going to do for mods. I was thinking get a CF hood and go stage 3 or big turbo. But at the sametime i definatly do not want to drive it in the winter, so i'm thinking about buying a daily driver. I don't want to drive a $1500 car for 8 months of the year, so then i was thinking of getting a '05-'06 2.2, but then all my mod money will be gone!
Also for people looking to upgrade, in '09 Mitsu is releasing a new model of the Lancer *cough AWD cough turbo cough*. Hardly any details have been released, my buddy works there. It's going to be the 'WRX of the Impreza and the STi will be the Evo'. Pricing will be in the high 20's.
Oh ya, as mentioned last night, is anyone else coming down to Fargo for the show?
As far as i know Eibach's do not display spring rates to the public. I had the Prokit on my Spec V, lots of guys have thr Prokit and Sportlines on srt's all of which have no displayed spring rate.
imo- it's prolly a safe bet you're going to get a stiffer ride w/ Prokits VS. OEM. It should be a little nicer for daily driving VS. Sportlines too, but you won't get as nice of a drop.
Buy some BC 32 way adjustable coilovers!! adjust the stiffness at the track and then put it back to soft for daily driving.

And I think the pro kit will look good on mine since it lowers the rear .5 and I'm going to get taller tires which will fill the wheel wells a little bit nicer too.
I'll probably go to Fargo.. just have to confirm a baby sitter for the kid but that shouldn't be a problem.

if u want info on the Lancer Ralliart (AWD Turbo) i got it for ya..
my buddy who works at mitsu says its going to be around the price of a WRX so expect it to be in the 30's, its going to be the same setup as a evo, minus 50 horses, and some exterior fashion. should be a beast.

Andrew and I are going to be putting his springs on at some point this summer (I beleive that is still the plan). Perhaps we can get yours done at some point as well.
I think Wes offered to help do the work?
