Toronto — The government has the power to seize and destroy cars that have been adapted for street racing, and can do so before a race takes place or any charges are laid, Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant said Wednesday.
Car junkies who pour thousands of dollars into their vehicles to make them as fast as possible are wasting their money, Mr. Bryant said.
He warned potential racers that all it takes is a tip from police to seize and destroy their cars.
“If we can establish someone has parts and they're juicing up their car — obviously for the purpose of street racing — then we can seize those vehicles,” Mr. Bryant said.
“We will seize it and you will never see it again. We will crush your car, we will crush the parts.”
Mr. Bryant said cars built for street racing are as dangerous as explosives and can cause catastrophic damage.
On Monday, a truck driver was killed after a crash on Highway 400 that was blamed on speed and dangerous driving.
Prabhjit Multani, 20, and Nauman Nusrat, 19, face charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing death by street racing.
Ravi Badhwar, 20, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
“This was a senseless act that cost a man his life and has left his family without a father, brother and grandfather,” Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino said in a release.
“There is no excuse for street racing and aggressive driving, such as the high speeds and unsafe lane changes we have seen recently.”
The crash was the third major accident in four days on the busy north-south highway, and the second fatal one.
Mr. Bryant said the government has had enough of street racers, and will have no qualms about destroying their cars.
“We don't need to wait until that car hits the road fully loaded,” he said.
Mr. Bryant also said the Crown has not yet decided whether to appeal the sentences of two young Toronto men who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death after a taxi driver was killed in a crash.
Wang-Piao Dumani Ross and Alexander Ryazanov, both 20, were each handed two-year conditional sentences and two years of probation for their role in the January 2006 crash.
Their lawyers said they weren't racing, although their speeding did constitute dangerous driving.

Wow... too bad they'll never actually get to crush a car...
According to Canadian law, no government can seize or destroy property without going through the court system.
Basically you'd have to be found guilty in court before your ride gets mashed.
Stupid media, always making it sound worse than it really is...

thats what i said in there

while i have red things that qualify as stupid (asking what the g85 package is on a ss/sc a million times) This is actually interesting. Yes its stupid that in Canada they can do this. However this is going against the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms or the Canadian constitution so they BY CANADIAN LAW they can not do this and can probably be sued. under your fundamental freedoms you have the right to expression and the right to speech. Modifying a car can be seen as both expression and speech (section 2), right from unreasonable search and seizure (only if the authorities believe someone is a threat to another, to society or to themselves, is such a search justified)(section 8), rights in criminal and penal matters such as the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty (section 11), and Right not to be subject to cruel and unusual punishment (section 12). If you are not doing anything and they can not legally prove that you are or had the intention to do something then this can be considered illegally taking your right to expression and speech. This ass hat also has no right to say what you can and can not use your money on. Last i checked that is not a right the government has. If they really want to attack someone they should start to look at statistics. In Cali they have an average of 14 Deaths a year from street races (usually the ones not planned). Orginized Street races usually have ALOT less a year. Now lets look at Cell phone talkers and drunk drivers. You will notice there are more deaths in one YEAR possibly then there are Street racing deaths. If you guys are pulled over in Canada before that police officer even searches your car GET A LAWYER ON THE PHONE simple as that.
to follow up with this, does that mean that all the stock corvettes and Ferrari's that the government owns are going to be crushed? Also when a police officer is going down the high way at a high rate of speed does that mean that police car will be crushed? When that government official is speeding does that mean his car will be crushed? What about the police officer on his down time that works on that car will that be crushed? What classifies as a upgraded part? What classifies as a Modified car? etc
they simply can not do this its against EVERY Canadians constitutional rights someone talk to a lawyer right away and start the process of suing if this is really in effect. And if you get some money throw some myway

Give me a break the government can kiss my ass...what's the difference if we put a t/c under the hood of my 2.2 as opposed to going out and buying say an SRT-4...absolutely nothing. No one buys a high HP car for gas mileage or vehicle saftey so increasing vehicle output is no different. They can **** right off.
Oh mr officer, you see that Ferarri over there, ya it goes real fast and should be seized because the 60 year old driving it bought it for street racing purposes. How about a new law that requires truckers to slow the **** down because they're a hazard when they're riding your trunk...and they're T/C!! Keep targeting the tuners because we're all so much more dangerous than a transport or SUV flying down the 401 at 140+ km/h...****** monkeys run our country and judicial system I swear to god.

Doubtful that it will go through, everyone would be driving econo-shitboxes. You would not see any car on the road with even a V6 in it for that matter. Think about it.... PLUS... like it says in the statements, they would have to PROVE it's going to be used to street racing first before they can do that, which is virtually impossible unless they start spying on you everywhere you go to see if you want to commence a street race, and well if you do.... then it's your own fault for your stupidity in wanting to race on city streets. If not, then why worry about it?
