winter tires
anyone buy winter tires for their SS Balt? i only bought my SS a month and a half ago and my buddy was saying he had to get special winter rims from GM because the calipers wont fit in normal winter rims or somehting along those lines. is there any truth to this?

mmm
im throwing winter tires (michellin x-ice) on my stock wheels so idk
oh and if you have an SS/sc you HAVE to get winter tires that or have someone follow you around in a tow truck. (the stock tires are NOT all season)

Yeah I have a SS/SC. I've only used the stock Pirelli P Zero Nero summer performance tires for like the first 7 months I had the car. I used the stock wheel and equipped them with the Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S all season tires. They aren't cheap, but they've made winter very easy to deal with...

What couldn't you stand about them?
The only problem I've noticed, and I've heard this from most reviews is that they wear pretty easily. I've had to replace my 2 front tires since I originally bought them in Winter of 06...

winter wheels will be the best thing you can do. can you make do with the stockers? maybe, some people do. but all it takes is one patch of ice to slide into a pole.
last winter, i was driving in the snow like it was dry out. trucks were stuck, and i just went right past them. i avoided several accidents just because the ******* in the truck behind me that thinks they're invincible in the snow couldn't stop in time, and almost plowed into me. but i had perfect traction, so i scooted out of the way. on stock tires, i would have gotten my car smashed. we had about a foot of snow, i didn't shovel it, put it in reverse and got right out.

a foot of snow would rip the exhaust and H/E off my car. hahah i wanna get winter rims. i have my stock ss/sc rims powder coated and i don't want to mess them up. im planning on getting throught this winter and going SS/TC so no after market summer rims.

nah, the front bumper clears the way my exhaust is like 2-3 inches off the ground

REALLY?! Granted, I don't use mine in the winter, but the Nero M&S's are the best tires I've ever had. WAY better grip than the Rossos and better yet mine have been on for the better part of 30,000 miles and are just BARELY showing signs of wear.

if i remember correctly my winter tires are winterforce 215/55/16 wrapped on 16" wheels, 5x110 bolt pattern. you can get a set of steelies from tire rack that will fit the ss/sc for very very cheap. i too have a ss/sc. i used to run the pirellie p zero nero m/s tires on my stock 18's and i got around real good, but with 16's and winterforce tires it handles snow even better.

This is common knowledge already. I want to know what the OP was talking about when he mentioned GM having special winter wheels for the SS/TC.
#18
Um. He never mentioned GM having special winter wheels for the SS/TC. He simply said SS and according to his info he has an SS/SC, so I don't know where you're getting anything regarding the SS/TC.

i think the OPs buddy got some foul info from the dealer or something. kinda like how the salesman told me that i needed a "special tool" to change the oil filer and GM is the only place where the "special tool" resides. basically him telling me i had to go to the dealer to get my oil changed. what a croc!

I got myself a set of cobalt SS/NA 2.4 17" wheels for my 08TC and it fits.
There is not a whole lot of room but the caliper doesn't move.
Now all i have to do is pick up a set of 205/50/17 winter tires !
Its gonna be expensive....... my ass is already hurting
